They drilled sixty feet into the boat-shaped ridge in eastern Turkey. The bit broke. The cores came up full of dark soil instead of solid rock. And Katrina at Origins Explained just walked through what the scans and the drills actually show so far.
The place is called the Durupinar Formation. It sits about eighteen miles south of Mount Ararat, near the village of Üzengili. From the air it looks like a ship’s hull—roughly 515 to 540 feet long, tapering at one end. Captain İlhan Durupinar spotted the outline in a Turkish Air Force photo in 1959. Locals said an earthquake and heavy rains had cleared the shape years earlier. Ever since, people have argued whether the ridge is the fossilized remains of Noah’s Ark or just a natural pile of rock and mud. Continued below the vid
This year the Turkish government gave a university team the first real deep-drilling permit. Prof. Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University led the work. Andrew Jones of the U.S. group Noah’s Ark Scans partnered with them. Roughly twenty people from five countries spent the summer mapping the site, running radar, and pulling soil. In September the drills went in. Some holes reached about sixty feet—eighteen meters. They sank twelve holes inside the outline and four outside it.
Jones says the drills inside the formation never hit a continuous layer of solid limestone or bedrock. The cores brought up dark, organic-rich soil. Preliminary numbers show carbon inside the shape running about 40 percent higher than the ground just outside it. At one spot, four to five meters down, the bit struck something hard enough to snap. The team wants labs to check whether that layer is petrified wood, mineralized timber, or ordinary hard rock. Radar surveys—using a system the group calls BakhtarRadar—showed linear features, right-angle shapes, possible voids, and layers stacked in three levels. Pottery fragments turned up beside the formation, not inside it; the style looks like it could range from the Copper Age to the Iron Age, but no lab date is public yet.
🚨 I BELIEVE THEY FOUND NOAH’S ARK.
A boat-shaped ridge sits right where Genesis says the ark came to rest, in the mountains of Ararat, and it matches the length and width the Bible gives.
Researcher Andrew Jones just wrapped his second season of work there.Per Fox’s Lauren Green, soil from 60 feet down inside the structure holds three times more organic matter than the soil outside it.
Jones says radar shows “a line of tunnels that are suggestive of organized structure.”
The experts call it a rock. They’ve been calling the Bible a fairy tale for centuries.
I’ll take Genesis over them every single time.

Atila and Jones both say the samples are headed to laboratories (Ankara, France, and others). First results are expected this winter or next spring. Jones has been clear that they have not yet identified ancient wood or proven the age of anything. He also says he believes the formation holds the buried remains of the Ark and that is why they are testing it as hard as they can. Media headlines that called the site “100 percent confirmed” went past what the team itself has published.
Katrina’s video on Origins Explained treats the new work as the latest chapter in a long argument. It covers the organic layers, the broken bit, and the radar claims of corridors and chambers. It also notes that the raw radar data has not been released for outside review and that none of the cores have finished lab work. Older geological papers, including a 1996 study by Lorence Collins, described the shape as a natural doubly-plunging syncline—an eroded fold in the rock. Creation-focused groups such as Answers in Genesis have said in recent weeks they do not believe the Ark has been found at this site. The 1988 cores pulled at the same place reportedly hit rock at similar depths. The new team argues the deeper, denser sampling and the absence of continuous bedrock change the picture. The labs will decide who is closer to the facts.
As Christians we must have discernment when a major discovery like this is claimed.
HOWEVER, this is great explanation from @_jeremiahj as to why this is one of the most exciting times in world history to be a Christian. https://t.co/Hwbx4DVp90

The wider mystery sits underneath the drills. Genesis gives the Ark’s size in cubits—300 long, 50 wide, 30 high. Different cubit lengths put the ship somewhere between about 450 and 510 feet. The ridge is in that ballpark. Flood stories appear in cultures far from the Bible; the oldest written versions come from Mesopotamia centuries before Genesis was set down. Whether the biblical account records one real event, several regional floods, or something else has been debated for a long time. This particular ridge keeps drawing people because the outline is hard to ignore and because earlier surface tests never settled the question. The 2026 cores and the pending lab numbers are the first chance in decades to test the dirt itself rather than argue from photographs and surface scans.

The winter lab reports will tell us whether the higher carbon, the hard layer, and the radar angles line up with decayed timber or with ordinary geology. Until those numbers are public, the ridge is still a shape on a hillside and a set of samples in a lab.

From Katrina (Text from Vid) For the first time ever, researchers have drilled deep into the boat-shaped Durupinar Formation in eastern Turkey, the site some believe holds the remains of Noah’s Ark. Hundreds of core samples are now at the lab, and the results could finally settle a debate that’s raged for decades. But the hunt for Noah’s Ark near Mount Ararat has a strange history, from a missing explorer to fake relics and an ancient Babylonian map that may point the way. Do you think the Durupinar Formation is really Noah’s Ark, or just a strange trick of nature? Let me know in the comments!
