Brivael Le Pogam watched France burn and asked a better question. Why does the same story play out in Germany, Sweden, Britain, Canada, and America at the same time? Different voters. Same open borders. Same schools teaching kids their own history is poison. Same NGOs spending taxpayer money to push the policies voters never approved.
His answer is blunt. The West needs a Nuremberg for communism. After World War II the Allies put Nazi leaders on trial and named their crimes for the world. Murder. Extermination. Enslavement. Deportation. Persecution on political or racial grounds. Communism checked every box. The Holodomor starved millions of Ukrainians on purpose. The Gulag worked millions to death. Mao’s Great Leap Forward killed tens of millions in a man-made famine. The Khmer Rouge wiped out roughly a quarter of Cambodia in four years. The Black Book of Communism, a 1997 study by European historians, put the total between 65 million and 100 million dead across the 20th century.
Nazism got the trial, the movies, the school trips to Auschwitz. Communism got a shrug. You can still wear a Che shirt on campus. You can still wave a hammer and sickle at a protest. One totalitarianism became a moral taboo. The other became a fashion. That double standard is why the idea never died. It just changed clothes. Class war became identity war. The proletariat became any group labeled a victim. The bourgeoisie became the West itself. Same logic. Split the country into oppressors and oppressed. Tear down the old order. Hand power to the people who claim to speak for the oppressed.
The far left and Islamism found each other for a reason. Western workers stopped buying the revolution. They wanted jobs and safe streets. So the left went looking for a new base. Open borders bring in numbers. Islamism supplies the energy and the hatred of the Western order that the old left can no longer produce on its own. Marxist language supplies the cover: every critic is a racist, every attack is a reaction to discrimination. History already ran the test. Iranian communists marched with Khomeini in 1979. Within a few years the regime banned their party and executed thousands of them. The useful idiots hang first.
Europe has started the paperwork. The 2008 Prague Declaration, signed by Václav Havel and other former dissidents, called for treating communist crimes the same as Nazi ones. The European Parliament passed a 2019 resolution that put Nazi and communist regimes side by side for mass murder, genocide, and deportations. Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine already ban communist symbols next to Nazi ones. They lived under both. They know the difference between theory and the body count.
America has more protection than Europe. The Constitution makes it harder for one ideology to capture everything at once. That is not immunity. The same ideas sit in universities, newsrooms, and HR departments. The same foundations and NGOs shape policy from outside the ballot box. Gates money at the World Health Organization. Open Society networks across Europe. Brussels funding the groups that then lobby Brussels. Voters never get a say.
What has to happen is practical. Western countries should formally list communist crimes as crimes against humanity with the same weight as the Nazi list. Glorifying the Holodomor or the killing fields should carry the same legal penalty as glorifying Nazi crimes. Public money should stop flowing to activist NGOs that exist to push the line the government already wants. Schools and the civil service should return to actual neutrality. Nations should decide who enters their borders instead of letting unelected networks decide for them.
The bigger job is culture. Nazism lost its romance because kids saw Schindler’s List, Band of Brothers, and the camps. Almost no one teaches the Holodomor the same way. Films, series, documentaries, and school material have to do the same work for the other body count. The Ukrainian farmer whose grain was taken. The Cambodian teacher killed for wearing glasses. The Soviet dissident locked in a psychiatric ward. The Iranian communist who cheered Khomeini and died in his prisons. Hollywood taught one set of victims. Someone has to teach the other.
Communism lost the Cold War. It never lost the battle for minds. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989. The wall in the universities and the newsrooms is still standing. National fights decide who runs the next government. The civilizational fight decides whether the countries still exist in recognizable form. A French voter taking back his borders and an American voter defending his Constitution are on the same front. They lose separately or they win together.
