America First voters sent Donald Trump back to the White House with a clear mandate: drain the swamp, hold the deep state accountable, and prosecute the architects of the Russia collusion hoax that tried to destroy his first presidency. Yet Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton are actively obstructing that justice.
Veteran investigator John Solomon dropped the bombshell on Steve Bannon’s War Room: Thune and Cotton have for months refused to turn over critical transcripts of former CIA Director John Brennan’s interviews with the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. Those transcripts are essential evidence for federal prosecutors in Florida examining whether Brennan lied to Congress and participated in a broader conspiracy to weaponize intelligence and law enforcement against Trump.
The requests went out in late January or early February. Four months later, the Senate still hasn’t complied. Solomon stated it bluntly: “Republicans are obstructing the investigation into weaponization. There are two Republicans I can name by name, Senator John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton.” He called the refusal both politically ridiculous and illegal obstruction. Historically, the Justice Department has subpoenaed Congress in major scandals like Watergate and Iran-Contra. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has not authorized that step, leaving the evidence locked away.
This is not some obscure bureaucratic delay. It is the same pattern Solomon documented earlier. In April, Just the News reported that the Senate under Thune had already blown past a February 23 deadline from the DOJ for Brennan-related transcripts and records tied to the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, the Steele dossier’s role in it, and collusion allegations. The House had already voted to transmit its similar materials. Thune’s team claimed they were seeking unanimous consent to avoid a floor fight that might slow other legislation. Meanwhile, the Florida grand jury investigation into the “grand conspiracy” of weaponization against Trump ground forward without the Senate’s full cooperation.
Brennan sits at the center of this. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan referred him for possible prosecution over false statements to Congress about the Russia assessment that framed Trump. Trump has repeatedly demanded accountability for the officials who pushed the discredited collusion narrative. Prosecutors under Joe diGenova (brought in to lead the effort) are examining whether Brennan and other intel figures engaged in a years-long effort to use the tools of government against a political opponent. The transcripts held by Cotton’s Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee are the missing pieces prosecutors need to decide on charges.
Thune and Cotton are not obscure backbenchers. Thune runs the Senate. Cotton chairs the committee that oversees the intelligence community. Their refusal to cooperate with a Republican administration’s DOJ protects the very permanent bureaucracy that spent years trying to kneecap Trump. It protects the people who signed off on the Steele dossier inclusion, who briefed the narrative, and who then went on cable television to lecture America about democracy while the Russia hoax metastasized into Crossfire Hurricane, Mueller, and beyond.
Trump wants the prosecutions. The base wants the prosecutions. The evidence trail points to systematic abuse. Yet the Republican leaders who control the Senate are the ones sitting on the documents. Solomon put it to them directly: Thune, Cotton, and Blanche have some explaining to do.
This is how the deep state survives even after voters reject it. Establishment senators prioritize institutional comity, unanimous consent deals with Democrats, and avoiding messy floor votes over delivering the accountability the country demanded. While they dither, the clock runs on statutes of limitations and the public’s patience.
MAGA did not send Republicans to Washington to protect John Brennan and the intel apparatus that targeted Trump. They sent them to finish the job. Thune and Cotton’s stonewalling makes clear whose side they are really on. The American people deserve the full truth and actual prosecutions, not more excuses from the same Republican leaders who keep finding reasons to slow-walk justice.
