President Trump made a rare foreign-language remark upon arrival at the presidential compound here, walking to a microphone to greet assembled troops.
"Merhaba," Trump told the dozens of uniformed military members, using the Turkish word for hello.
The second word in the greeting, as uttered by Trump, appeared to be "askerler," or "soldiers" — to which the service members shouted an acknowledgement.
