A passenger ship ran aground on the Rhine River in Cologne, Germany, on Monday after unusually low water levels caused by prolonged drought and hot weather. The vessel, Viking Einar, lightly struck a quay wall while attempting a turn, but no injuries were reported. Authorities are working to free the ship, while police investigate the incident and have issued the captain an administrative fine. The Rhine’s unusually low water levels have also disrupted cargo shipping, forcing many vessels to operate with reduced loads.
