John Solomon drops another load of receipts, and suddenly the self-anointed guardian of justice looks less like a Boy Scout and more like a political operative who never expected the other side to win. Lead prosecutor Lindsey Halligan has released handwritten notes and emails “found” by the FBI that show former FBI Director James Comey was fully aware his top aide was leaking to the media—and cheered him on with a cheerful “good job my friend” / “Well done my friend.” The same documents reveal Comey fully expected to be working for “President-elect Hillary Clinton” after the 2016 election.
They truly never thought she would lose. Incredible.
This is not some minor bureaucratic oops. This is the man who ran the FBI while the Clinton campaign ran a dirty-trick operation to frame Donald Trump as a Russian agent. Comey’s own notes from September 2016 reference the “HRC plan to tie Trump.” He sat on that knowledge, protected Hillary’s email server mess with kid gloves, and then turned the full machinery of the Bureau against the incoming president. When Trump won anyway and eventually fired him, the same crowd opened a secret probe—codenamed Oxferd Comma—into whether Trump was the Russian asset for daring to fire the guy who had just spent months undermining him.
The Leaker-in-Chief’s Cheerleading
Comey’s close confidant Daniel Richman, a special government employee and Columbia law professor, was feeding information and guidance to The New York Times about the Clinton email investigation and related matters. Comey was kept in the loop. After one such briefing, the FBI Director emailed him the warmest of thanks: “Well done my friend. Who knew this would be so fun.” He also fretted about coverage, told Richman to “make him [the reporter] smarter,” and casually discussed how a “president-elect Clinton” would be grateful for his decisions.
Years later, under oath before Congress, Comey claimed he had not authorized anyone at the FBI to serve as an anonymous source in news reports. The emails say otherwise. Prosecutors under Halligan have used this material in the case against him for false statements and obstruction. The notes were recovered from a burn bag in a sealed SCIF at FBI headquarters—because of course they were. Nothing says “transparent public servant” like hiding evidence in the FBI’s own secure rooms.
Treason by a Thousand Cuts
Call it what it is. Using the nation’s premier law-enforcement agency to run political cover for one candidate while manufacturing a collusion narrative against the other is not “protecting democracy.” It is subverting it. Comey’s FBI knew the Steele dossier was opposition research. They knew the Alfa Bank nonsense was thin. They knew the Clinton campaign had a plan to hang a Russian shingle on Trump’s campaign house. And they pressed forward anyway, with the full expectation that Hillary would win and the whole thing would disappear into the memory hole.
When that plan failed, the bureaucracy did what bureaucracies do: it protected itself. Comey leaked his own memos through Richman to force a special counsel. The Bureau opened investigations predicated on the premise that firing the Director who had just spent months targeting the President was itself evidence of Russian influence. Durham later documented the systemic failures and political bias. The American people paid the price in years of institutional warfare, divided government, and eroded trust.

Fast-forward to 2025–2026 and the same James Comey is back in the dock—first over false statements to Congress about the leaks, then over a beach photo of seashells arranged to read “86 47.” The seashell case may or may not hold up as a true threat; the underlying pattern of contempt for the elected government and the rules that bind the rest of us is harder to dismiss. Comey has spent a decade portraying himself as the last honest man in Washington. The emails and notes paint a different picture: a senior official who treated the FBI as a political tool, expected a soft landing under the candidate he protected, and never imagined accountability would arrive.
Solomon’s latest reporting and the Halligan filings do not invent this history. They simply put Comey’s own words next to his sworn testimony and the actions of the institution he led. The result is damning. A man who lectured the country about norms while ignoring them when it suited his preferred outcome is not a hero. He is a cautionary tale about what happens when the guardians of the law decide the law is optional for the right people.
America does not need more self-righteous lectures from the architects of Russiagate. It needs the full record, the unredacted notes, and consequences that match the damage done. “Good job my friend” may have been the private toast in 2016. In 2026, the public is still cleaning up the mess. Now we will soon find out of the new AG Blanche is out for justice or is merely protecting the Deep State.
