Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said this week that the country is under the worst blockade, war, and hardship since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Speaking on state television, he declared: “Over the 48 years since the Revolution, we have never faced such intense blockade, war and difficulties as we are facing now.” He blamed the United States for making life harder so that ordinary Iranians would get angry and take to the streets. President Trump just says it as he always does.
.@POTUS: “Iran is a failed country. They have no economy. They have 300% inflation. They have no money. They’re not paying their troops. They’re not paying anybody. We’ll make a decision on Iran very soon.” https://t.co/rgSXdh32FK

The facts on the ground match the hardship part. They do not match the blame.
Iran’s currency, the rial, has lost nearly 35 percent of its value against the dollar since July. On the street it has traded near record lows of roughly 2.7 million rials to one dollar. Annual inflation hit 73.6 percent in September, according to Iran’s own statistical center. Food prices have risen far faster in many places. The government prints more money to cover its bills, which makes prices climb even higher. Iran is nearly a dead nation economically.
Oil is the main way the regime brings in hard currency. Seaborne crude exports fell to zero in September for the first time since 1979, according to tracking firm Vortexa. That is the direct result of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, tightened after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. The oil minister resigned as the cash dried up. Top security official Mohsen Rezaei, a hardliner, admitted at a government meeting that Iran is in one of the most difficult periods it has faced.
Central bank governor Abdolnaser Hemmati told an International Monetary Fund meeting that talk of economic collapse is an “illusion.” Nurses, teachers, and other workers have posted online that they are quitting because their pay no longer covers food and rent. Farmers say the government is late paying them for wheat already delivered, while the falling rial makes the money worth less by the time it arrives. People are spending cash the same day they get it because it loses value overnight.
🇺🇸 U.S. Treasury Secretary on Iran’s economy:
“Workers are not showing up for work. Iran does not have access to the dollar market, and as a result, it is resorting to printing money.”

Cost-of-living protests broke out in late December 2025 and spread nationwide. Security forces crushed them with force and later executed people accused of working with foreign enemies. Pezeshkian now claims the United States is trying to create new unrest by tightening the blockade. The regime has a simple answer to every problem: blame outsiders, lock up or shoot protesters, and keep the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its allies funded.
Even while the rial collapses and oil money stops, reports say Iran sent about $200 million to Hezbollah in September to help its Lebanese supporters. Ordinary Iranians have reacted with anger. One message to Iran International put it plainly: the regime gives large sums to Hezbollah families while Iranian food allowances are tiny and sometimes clawed back. The clerical government has spent years sending money and weapons to proxies across the region while Iranian wages buy less every month.
BREAKING: The U.S. is now again preparing for the possibility of another major wave of attacks against Iran, with a massive surge in C-17 military cargo flights over the past 36 hours — an unusually sharp increase compared with previous weeks, according to flight-tracking data.
Most of the flights are reportedly landing in Israel, as Iranian strikes have damaged American-linked facilities across the region.
The buildup comes as the Pentagon moves a third carrier strike group and an estimated 9,000–10,000 additional troops toward the Middle East. The USS Theodore Roosevelt and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group are expected to join the regional deployment.
Iranian officials also believe a joint U.S. and Israeli attack is very likely.

President Trump’s blockade and Operation Economic Outcast have cut the regime’s oil revenue to near nothing. White House officials have said the pressure is strangling the economy and that Iran is running short of money to pay its own forces. Iranian officials answer with denial and threats. They treat the suffering of their own people as a tool to stay in power and keep the “resistance” network alive.
Pezeshkian told the truth about the pain. The Islamic Republic has spent decades choosing ideology, foreign adventures, and regime survival over the daily lives of Iranians. The numbers show the result. The regime’s actions show it does not care. The Iranian people will suffer until they rise up and fight for their freedom.
