STEPHEN A. SMITH IS STARTING TO SEE WHAT BLACK CONSERVATIVES HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS. Stephen A. Smith is pushing back hard against the National Association of Black Journalists after receiving a “Thumbs Down” award for allegedly disparaging Black women. He called the accusation a “flat-out lie” and argued that disagreeing with Black women such as Jasmine Crockett, Kamala Harris, or Michelle Obama does not mean he is attacking Black women. And this raises a bigger question:
Why are Black people sometimes expected to have 100% political allegiance to the Democratic Party to be considered “Black enough”? You should be able to disagree with a politician—regardless of their race or gender—without being accused of betraying your community. Being Black does not require voting Democrat. Being Black does not require agreeing with every Democratic talking point. And disagreeing with another Black person does not make you anti-Black. Black conservatives have been saying this for years. Maybe now more people are finally listening.
