Trump Militarizes the Border: From Biden’s Open-Border Invasion to America’s Most Secure Frontier in 55 Years
Benny Johnson (above) just dropped the latest bombshell, and it hits exactly like the America First agenda promised. Trump has declared stretches of the U.S. southern border a military zone. The Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel green-lit new National Defense Areas — restricted military land where U.S. troops can now detain illegal crossers for trespassing. Nearly 1,000 miles are under this militarized authority. On top of that, the second wall is rising. This is not theater. This is sovereignty restored.
Under Joe Biden and the open-borders crowd, America absorbed an invasion. Millions poured across. Cartels got rich. Fentanyl flooded in. Cities strained. Gotaways vanished into the interior by the hundreds of thousands. Catch-and-release became the norm. The message to the world was clear: the border is open, come on in.
President Trump flipped the switch on Day One of his second term. Remain in Mexico is back. Asylum abuse is crushed. Expedited removal is the rule. Zero releases into the interior for 15 straight months. And now the military is fully in the fight — not as window dressing, but with real authority to detain.
The results are not subtle. They are historic.
U.S. Border Patrol southwest border apprehensions cratered:
- FY 2021: 1.66 million
- FY 2022: 2.21 million (record)
- FY 2023: 2.05 million
- FY 2024: 1.53 million
- FY 2025: 0.24 million — the lowest since 1970.
That’s a collapse of more than 90 percent from the Biden peaks. Daily average apprehensions that once ran over 5,100 under Biden are now around 250. Entire months under Trump have fewer crossings than a single busy day during the Biden chaos.
The militarization is the next logical step. Thousands of active-duty troops (roughly 8,000–9,000 at any given time under Joint Task Force-Southern Border) patrol, surveil, and now detain. National Defense Areas turn border land into restricted military property. Cross into those zones and you are not just an illegal entrant — you are a trespasser on a military installation. The latest DOJ opinion expands that authority so troops can pursue and detain even just outside the zones. No more legal gray area. No more catch-and-release theater.
Wall construction is accelerating with new funding. Barriers, smart wall technology, and secondary fencing are going up. Cartels are being pushed into harder terrain. The deterrent effect is real: people who once saw an open door now see a militarized, enforced, no-release border.
Compare the eras side by side. Biden-era average monthly southwest border encounters ran in the mid-to-high six figures. Under Trump the monthly average has collapsed into the low thousands. That is the difference between an invasion and control.
Gotaways also plunged. The known gotaway numbers that once averaged well over a thousand a day under Biden have been driven down dramatically. Interior enforcement and the clear message that illegal entry brings swift removal have compounded the border success. CBO estimates and DHS data show the net illegal population growth reversed hard once the border was actually closed.
This is what America First looks like in practice. Enforce the law. Deploy the resources. Give the military real tools instead of tying their hands. Build the wall and then build more of it. End the incentives that invited the world to walk in.
The numbers do not lie. The lowest southwest border apprehensions in more than half a century. Fifteen consecutive months of zero releases. A militarized border with expanding detention authority. A second wall under construction. Millions who came under the previous open-borders experiment are no longer being joined by new waves at the same scale.
Trump said he would secure the border. He is doing it — with troops, with law, with barriers, and with results the previous administration never even attempted. The invasion is over. The defense of the homeland is underway. Now we all sit back and worry what will happen if the Democrats are permitted to use fraud in the November elections. If they steal Congress and the Senate, dark days are indeed ahead for America. Trump and Vance will be gone by next February and the new Democrat President, who will be the former Speaker of the House in 2027, will open the border, and bring about Marxist destruction in our nation, in every way. All of this if Trump does not get the Save America Act passed. Or a National Emergency is due – to save this nation from Democrat fraud and destruction.
