For decades, American patients got stuck with the highest drug prices on the planet while other developed nations paid far less for the exact same medicines made in the same factories. Big Pharma and foreign governments treated the United States like an ATM. That era is ending.
New data shows U.S. prescription drug prices recorded their steepest year-over-year decline since 1963. Prices fell 0.8% in July alone and are down 3.1% from a year earlier. The White House reports prescription drug prices have dropped 3.9% since President Trump took office and have fallen every single month of 2026. Nonprescription drugs are down 2.4% over the same period. Medical care commodities fell 2.7% in the past year.
This is not incremental. This is the largest annual drop in more than six decades — and it is happening under the Most Favored Nation framework Trump forced into reality.

The result is that U.S. prices are being brought into line with the lowest levels paid abroad. Americans are no longer forced to subsidize cheaper drugs for patients in Europe and elsewhere while shouldering the bulk of global research and development costs. The free-riding ends.
The TrumpRx platform puts those lower prices directly in front of patients. The administration says the site has already generated $700 million in savings for millions of Americans. High-cost drugs that once crushed household budgets are seeing dramatic cuts:
- GLP-1 medications that routinely topped $1,000 a month are now available starting as low as $149.
- Insulin products, inhalers, fertility drugs, cholesterol treatments, and dozens of other medicines have seen reductions of 50% to 90% or more through the platform and related deals.

Promises Made, Results Delivered
Previous administrations talked about drug prices. Some passed laws. None produced a sustained, broad decline on this scale. Trump is the first president to actually drive prescription drug prices down in a measurable, sustained way through these market-forcing deals and direct-to-patient channels.
The data is still early, and other factors — including continued implementation of earlier Medicare negotiation authority and competition from generics and biosimilars — play a role. But the direction and the speed of the recent drop align with the rollout of MFN agreements and TrumpRx. Prices that had been climbing for years are now moving the other way, and they have done so consistently through 2026.
For American families who watched their pharmacy bills climb while other countries paid less for the same pills, this is concrete relief. Big Pharma no longer gets a blank check from U.S. patients. Foreign nations no longer get the best prices while Americans foot the bill.
Trump’s plan is working. Prices are coming down faster than they have in generations. And for the first time in a long time, American patients are no longer the world’s pharmacy ATM.
