Americans are waking up. One regular guy paid his dental insurance premiums month after month, year after year, like a good citizen. When he actually needed real work—a crown and a dental implant—he got the classic runaround. Denied. Or covered so poorly it might as well have been denied. He paid more than $4,000 out of pocket for the implant and over $2,200 for the crown. Then he sat down and did the math that millions of Americans should do.
Americans are realizing Dental Insurance is also a scam
This American has been paying his dental insurance. He needed 2 teeth worked on, a crown and implant. Both were denied

The total he had already poured into monthly premiums over the years was higher than what the actual cash price of the work would have cost him from the start. He could have paid cash and come out ahead. His conclusion was blunt and correct: “It’s a scam from the get-go. It’s an absolute Ponzi scheme.” And he named the real owners—BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard—the same giant asset managers who sit as the largest institutional shareholders across most of the major U.S. health and dental insurers.
He is right.
Dental insurance in America is one of the cleanest examples of a product designed to extract money from working people while delivering as little as possible when they need it. The annual maximum benefit on most plans still sits in the $1,000 to $2,000 range—the same ballpark it occupied in the 1970s. Costs for real dentistry have exploded. A single implant routinely runs $3,000 to $6,000 or more. Crowns are routinely $1,000 to $2,500. The insurance company takes your premiums, caps what it will ever pay in a year at a figure that hasn’t kept up with reality, and then still leaves you writing big checks.
Preventive cleanings get covered so they can claim the plan has value. Anything serious hits the annual ceiling fast or gets labeled in ways that reduce the payout. Having a missing tooth is not “cosmetic.” It is a functional problem that affects chewing, speech, jaw health, and basic quality of life. Treating it as optional is how the game works.
The ownership structure makes the incentives even clearer. The same handful of massive index-fund managers dominate the shareholder lists of the big insurers. Their business model thrives when premiums flow in steadily and payouts stay constrained. Working Americans fund the system. The financial giants collect the upside. Sound familiar?
Meanwhile, the same political class that lectures citizens about “equity” has no problem ensuring that non-citizens and system dependents receive free or heavily subsidized care while legal, taxpaying Americans are told to keep paying premiums for coverage that evaporates when the bill arrives. That is not a bug. It is the culture of a country that has stopped prioritizing its own productive people.

Plenty of Americans have already figured out the exit ramps. Cash-pay discounts at many dental offices beat insurance pricing. Some practices offer membership plans that are simpler and more honest. Dental tourism to places like Costa Rica or Mexico routinely delivers implants and crowns at 60-70% lower cost with high-quality work and far less nickel-and-diming. One traveler got a crown, two fillings, exam, and cleaning for $900. Another was told in the U.S. he needed expensive root canals; the same work abroad showed he did not need them at all once real X-rays were reviewed. The U.S. system is not just expensive—it is often incentivized toward over-treatment once insurance is in the picture.
The broader insurance model has the same DNA. Health insurance, dental insurance, and much of the rest of the medical-industrial complex function less like protection and more like a toll booth with complicated rules written to favor the toll collectors. When the biggest institutional owners of the companies are the same firms that manage trillions for the global investment class, ordinary families should not be surprised that the product is structured against them.

The man in the viral video did something simple and powerful: he calculated his actual lifetime cost and compared it to cash reality. More Americans should do the same. Stop treating dental insurance as a moral obligation or a “must-have.” Treat it as a product. Run the numbers. If the premiums exceed the value you actually receive, cancel it. Pay cash where it makes sense. Look abroad if the savings are large and the clinics are reputable. Demand that politicians stop protecting a system that milks citizens while expanding free benefits for people who never paid into it.
This is not radical in the least. It is basic arithmetic and self-respect that the insurance honchos do not want you to embrace.. Hardworking Americans have subsidized enough scams. Dental insurance is one of the more obvious ones. The math is public. The ownership is public. The denials are personal. Time to stop playing along, they can all go to hell. America is waking up now.

- Americans are realizing Dental Insurance is also a scam This American has been paying his dental insurance. He needed 2 teeth worked on, a crown and implant. Both were denied He paid out of pocket. He did the math and found what he’s paid out of pocket for all his dental work was only 1/3 of the price with cash-pay than how much he’s spent paying his monthly premiums “I done the math — I figured up my monthly payment at the end of the year for paying for my dental insurance, I could have paid for those things out of pocket and paid less than what I paid into my insurance” “Look, I’m starting to really get pissed off about this game of insurance. It’s a scam from the get-go. It’s an absolute Ponzi scheme, and these fricking insurance companies, guess who owns them all? BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard” He’s right, BlackRock, Vanguard and State are the largest institutional shareholders in most major US health insurance companies He says he had to pay over $4,000 out of pocket for his dental implant. His crown was over $2,200 out of pocket. All while paying monthly health insurance…. This is a scam Having a big hole in your mouth where a tooth uses to be is not “cosmetic” in American society. It’s a necessity to get fixed – Wall Street Apes Post
- Paying insurance companies to spend your own money is a scam. Catastrophic health insurance is the only thing needed. Dental health care can also be a scam. The need for a dental procedure is a subjective judgement. Unless you are having pain, it could be something you don’t need. – Michael S
- For my last dental work, I took a vacation to Costa Rica. Got a crown, two fillings, the exam and my teeth cleaned for $900. I have a friend whose dentist of 10 years told him he needed two root canals and it would cost $9,000. He contacted a dentist in San Jose, CR and they said they could do it for $3,000. They took X-rays when he got there and told him he didn’t need a root canal. They showed him the X-rays to prove it. So not only is the insurance worthless, you may not be able to trust the dentist. – Deep Sigh
- US dentist said I needed 3 teeth pulled: $800 out of pocket, ~$3k billed to insurance. Suspicious, I saw a dentist in Mexico. Cleaning + medicated mouthwash fixed my gingivitis in 2 weeks for $120. No extractions. US dentistry is a scam – FT
