A Venezuelan immigrant who lived the nightmare just delivered a blunt warning that every American needs to hear.
Daniel Di Martino of the Manhattan Institute didn’t mince words: the only good thing about surviving socialism is learning how bad it truly is so you never repeat the mistake. Corruption exists everywhere, he noted. What sets Venezuela, Cuba, and other socialist disasters apart is the systematic destruction of free enterprise. You cannot start a business. You cannot feed your family. People starve or flee by the millions. That is not a coincidence. It is the design.
Now look at who is rising inside the Democrat Party.
The Democratic Socialists of America is no longer a fringe pressure group. It is scoring real victories, electing its own, and shifting the party’s center of gravity leftward at high speed. Zohran Mamdani, a proud DSA member, is mayor of New York City. DSA-backed candidates are knocking off establishment Democrats in primaries. The organization is openly treating the Democratic Party as the vehicle for its project. Mainstream analysts are already comparing the DSA’s surge inside the Democrats to the MAGA takeover of the Republicans.
This is not about “Medicare for All” talking points. Read the DSA’s own current program, “Workers Deserve More,” drafted after their 2025 convention. The language is clear:
They intend to “win the battle for democracy, draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic.”
They call for abolishing the U.S. Senate. They want the President and Supreme Court replaced by an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to a single, unicameral Congress. They demand public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries. They want to abolish ICE, end detentions and deportations, and extend voting rights to non-citizens. Food, energy, medicine, and transportation are to be treated as common goods under democratic control, not private enterprise.
That is not reform. That is regime change aimed at the American system itself.

The Constitution’s separation of powers, equal state representation in the Senate, independent judiciary, and protection of private property are not bugs to these people. They are the obstacles. Free enterprise is the enemy. The DSA platform does not hide this. It celebrates the goal of ending the “capitalist oligarchy” and building something fundamentally different from the republic the Founders designed.
Di Martino’s point lands with force here. Socialist systems do not fail because the wrong people ran them. They fail because they destroy the ability of ordinary people to produce, trade, and build. Once free enterprise is gone, the shortages, the lines, the exodus, and the repression follow. Venezuela did not become a refugee-producing basket case by accident. Cuba did not. Neither will any country that follows the same playbook.

Whatfinger News and MAGA readers already understand that the Democrat Party has moved far from the center. What is new is the speed and openness of the socialist capture. The DSA is not hiding in the shadows. It is publishing its platform, electing mayors, knocking off incumbents, and daring the rest of the party to stop it. Establishment Democrats are mostly frozen or accommodating. Some still pretend this is just energetic progressivism. It is not.
The American Constitution is the greatest anti-socialist document ever written. It deliberately diffuses power, protects property, limits government, and makes radical transformation extremely difficult. That is precisely why the DSA wants a new one. Their vision requires concentrated power and the ability to seize the means of production without constitutional roadblocks.
This is the real fight. Not the daily media noise. Not the personality contests. The organized socialist left has decided the Democrat Party is its vehicle, and its destination is a system that has produced poverty, migration, and dictatorship every time it has been tried at scale.
Listen to the man who lived it. Then read the DSA’s own words. Then decide whether you are willing to let this continue unchecked.

From the folks: Wall Street Apes: This is a warning about Socialism. Listen to every single word America “The only good thing about having lived under socialism is that you learn how bad it is, and so you don’t wanna make those same mistakes What’s concerning to me is that after I came to America a decade ago, I learned that there were actually people who believed in these ideas, who believed that what happened in Venezuela was not due to socialism, but, you know, it’s just another corrupt government. Well, guess what? Most countries are corrupt. There are corrupt people in the US government, too — there are corrupt people in every government in the world There are many corrupt countries. Not many countries have eight million people flee from their country, a third of their population. Not many countries starve to death, even corrupt countries, because you have to take people’s freedom for that to happen. Even countries that are dictatorships. Do you see people starving in the streets of Dubai, even during the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz? No. Do you see refugees flowing out of Saudi Arabia when oil prices go down? Do you even see countries that are sanctioned starve to death? No. So why is Venezuela, why is Cuba, why are all these socialist countries different? Because the common denominator is that they destroy free enterprise. You cannot start a business. You cannot feed your family, therefore you die and you flee. It’s that simple.” Post at X
