Welcome to our small group study! John Barnett here, and I am thrilled to share the next step in our incredible journey through God’s Word. Here is a challenge for the monumental truths we are uncovering today. Grab your notebook, and let’s look at three powerful realities we cover in this study:
1. The Grand Outline: From Creator to Lamb of God–Psalm 24, Genesis 1-3, Revelation 5.
Summary of What’s Covered: We kick off by showing how Psalm 24 is actually a miniature version of the entire Bible. We trace God as the Creator in Genesis 1 and 2, and then follow His promise to come as the Redeemer starting in Genesis 3 all the way through Revelation 5. He is the Lamb of God offering salvation to anyone who will call on Him. I get so excited in this lesson that I actually take five minutes to rapidly summarize the overarching theme of every single book of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation!
2. The Two Candles: Creation and Conscience–Acts 17.
Summary of What’s Covered: We answer the critical question of how God will hold everyone accountable. Paul tells the pagans in Acts 17 that God is just an arm’s length away from every person. In this class, we learn that God gives everyone born into this world two "candles" of light: the witness of Creation (seeing the Creator) and the inner voice of Conscience (knowing right from wrong). We explore how lost humanity blows out these candles by adopting evolutionary views to deny the Creator and by excusing their own sins to silence their conscience. Jesus has knocked on the heart’s door of everyone who has ever lived.
3. The Ultimate Reckoning: The Great White Throne–Revelation 6-19, Revelation 20:11-15.
Summary of What’s Covered: We finally dive into my absolute favorite book of the Bible: Revelation. We look at the biggest event of all time—the end of the final rebellion described in Revelation 6-19. We look at a sobering picture of the Great White Throne judgment, where every lost person will stand individually before God to answer for why they neglected Jesus Christ. God will show them their sins, show them how they rejected His knock, and cast them into the lake of fire. It is a terrifying reality that should ignite our passion for evangelism today.
