    Democracy Dies in Poland: Tusk’s Police Move on the Constitutional Tribunal While the President Is Airborne

    Late on the night of October 30, 2026, Polish police moved on the Constitutional Tribunal building in Warsaw. President Karol Nawrocki was en route to Senegal at the time. He ordered the presidential aircraft turned around and wrote that at a moment like this the president must be in Poland. He was returning.

    Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, whose own status is disputed because President Nawrocki has refused to swear in several judges elected by the current parliamentary majority, ordered the suspension of Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski and his deputy for a month and declared she was taking charge. Święczkowski rejected the order and called the action a coup d’état. Police secured the perimeter. Supporters of the sitting leadership cut through fences and chains with power tools. Three people were detained after objects were thrown at officers. The Tribunal’s own X account stated that an unlawful takeover of its website had occurred, that Święczkowski remained chief justice, and that Korwin-Piotrowska is not a Tribunal judge. The Justice Minister has moved to strip immunities so criminal charges can be brought.

    CDM’s European staff reported the sequence in “Democracy Dies In Poland,” noting that police took control of the empty building under cover of night while the head of state was abroad, that Tribunal security and the vice-president were refused entry, and that the actions match the final stage of an undemocratic seizure of power under Article 128 of the Polish penal code.

    Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended the move in his usual language: “Restoring the rule of law is our duty. After years of PiS lawlessness, it’s a difficult, sometimes painful process that requires decisive action. There is no other way.”

    Jack Posobiec, whose family is from Poland and who has covered the Tusk government’s moves for weeks, posted the blunt version: Poland refused to take Muslim refugees, and this is how the globalists respond. He has framed the night as a judicial coup timed for the president’s absence.

    The longer context is simple. Law and Justice spent years reforming the courts and clashing with Brussels over whether EU institutions or the Polish constitution has the last word. Tusk’s pro-EU coalition took power in late 2023 and has worked to reverse those changes. Nawrocki, the PiS-aligned president, has blocked several of the new judicial appointments. With the presidency and the Tribunal still outside full control, the government moved while the president was in the air. Poland’s ambassador to China resigned the same day, citing events at home.

    Poland refused to take Muslim refugees. And this is how the globalists respond:

    The pattern is familiar to anyone watching other European capitals. A government aligned with Brussels treats resistance to its preferred judicial outcomes as “lawlessness,” deploys police to the last independent constitutional body, and calls the result the restoration of the rule of law. Posobiec has noted for years that Poland’s refusal to accept mass third-world migration and its defense of national institutions made it a target. The scenes in Warsaw on Friday night are the next chapter of that campaign.

    The suspended head of Poland’s top court is trying to get back into the building tonight, but police won’t let him in He even cut the chains off the gate and brought a few lawmakers with him, and the police still aren’t budging. Neither side is giving an inch.

    Polish opposition figures, including former Prime Minister Beata Szydło, described police forcing their way into the Tribunal, removing security personnel, and denying the vice-president entry as a violation of democratic principles. Crowds gathered outside with Polish flags. The president is back on the ground. The Tribunal’s leadership says the suspension is illegal. Tusk says the process must continue.
