Heavy rainfall in Shanghai caused severe flooding at an underground Hema supermarket in Yangpu District on July 19, with video showing torrents of water rushing into the store after street-level drainage systems were overwhelmed. The Wujiaochang area was among the hardest hit, receiving around 200 millimeters of rain within a few hours. Authorities said the flooding damaged merchandise and electronic equipment, forcing the supermarket to close indefinitely for cleanup and damage assessments as heavy monsoon rains continued to impact parts of China.
