Hochul’s Sanctuary Betrayal: New York’s Governor Just Made It Official—Local Cops Can’t Help ICE Catch Criminals, and Americans Are the Prey
New York Governor Kathy Hochul stood up this week and declared victory for the open-borders crowd. Her “Local Cops, Local Crimes Act” is now the law of the land in the Empire State. Local police and sheriffs are banned from formal cooperation with ICE on civil immigration enforcement. 287(g) agreements? Dead. Local jails as temporary holding spots for ICE? Forbidden. And if any department dares keep working with federal immigration agents on anything short of a “real crime,” Hochul promises legal action.
She framed it as protecting communities from “ICE overreach” and “atrocities.” The same ICE that is removing people who already have criminal records for homicide, rape, child sex offenses, assault, and drug trafficking. According to Hochul, the real threat is federal agents enforcing the law Congress wrote. The Americans killed or raped by the people her policies protect? Apparently a secondary concern.

This is not nuance. This is not federalism. This is deliberate obstruction of federal immigration law dressed up as compassion. And every politician, activist, and district attorney who champions sanctuary policies that free known criminal illegal aliens back onto American streets is aiding the next victim. That makes them traitors to the people they swore to protect. Hochul included. They should face consequences under federal law.
The Numbers Don’t Lie—Even When Sanctuary Politicians Do
DHS data is brutal. New York’s refusal to honor ICE detainers has resulted in the release of nearly 7,000 criminal illegal aliens since early in the Trump administration’s second term. Their combined rap sheets include dozens of homicides, thousands of assaults, hundreds of sexual predatory offenses, robberies, weapons charges, and drug trafficking. At the same time, thousands more with active detainers remain in New York custody—including more than a hundred homicide offenders—while the state refuses to hand them over cleanly.
Proportion of the major crime categories among those released. Makes the scale of assaults and sex offenses immediately obvious.

These are not abstract “migrants.” These are people already in the criminal justice system for serious offenses. Local authorities had them. ICE asked for them. Sanctuary rules said no. The result is predictable: more victims. New York has produced its share of horror stories—repeat offenders released despite detainers and warrants who went on to commit further sexual assaults, strangulations, and other violence. The pattern repeats in California, Illinois, and every other jurisdiction that treats ICE as the enemy and criminal aliens as a protected class.
Hochul’s defenders claim the law only blocks “civil” immigration help and still allows cooperation on actual crimes. That is a word game. Once a criminal illegal alien finishes a local sentence or posts bail, the sanctuary shield often kicks in. ICE has to chase them on the street instead of taking custody at the jail door. That is how monsters walk free. Calling that “public safety” is gaslighting on a historic scale.
Side-by-side bars showing how many serious offenders New York already let walk versus how many are still sitting in custody with active ICE detainers (including 148 homicide offenders still being held).

Federal Law Exists for a Reason
Immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility. 8 U.S.C. § 1373 makes clear that state and local governments may not prohibit or restrict the sharing of information about citizenship or immigration status with federal authorities. Sanctuary regimes that systematically refuse cooperation, ignore detainers, and punish local officers for helping federal agents come as close as they can to violating that statute and the broader principle of federal supremacy.
Courts have sometimes protected the right of localities not to affirmatively enforce federal civil immigration law under anti-commandeering doctrine. That does not make it wise, moral, or consistent with the oath of office. When the practical effect is the deliberate release of people with violent criminal records who then prey on Americans, the line between non-cooperation and obstruction collapses. Officials who design and defend these systems are choosing foreign lawbreakers over American citizens. That is a betrayal of the social contract.
Hochul’s own rhetoric gives the game away. She celebrates cutting local cops out of the process while threatening departments that prefer to work with ICE. She calls federal enforcement “atrocities” while the body count and rape statistics from released offenders continue. This is not governance. It is ideological capture. The Democrats are purposely releasing animals to prey on American citizens. All of them deserve prison, but at present we have a DOJ, even under Trump, that protects all Democrats. Hell – they STILL have not arrested Fauci or any other Deep State connected criminals who caused death and destruction in our nation and around the world.

Traitors Deserve Handcuffs, Not Press Conferences
Anyone who supports policies that systematically free criminal illegal aliens to kill, rape, and terrorize Americans is acting against the interests of the United States and its people. That includes governors, mayors, prosecutors, and activists who treat ICE as the villain and the criminal alien as the client. They are not “resisting.” They are enabling. In a sane country, that would trigger investigations for obstruction, conspiracy, and related federal offenses. The fact that it currently does not is a political failure, not a legal one.
Hochul is not alone. The same disease infects California, Illinois, and a string of blue cities that have turned “sanctuary” into a suicide pact. The difference is that Trump’s administration is finally pushing back with lawsuits, funding pressure, and actual enforcement. New York’s new law is a middle finger to that effort. It should be met with the full force of federal authority.
Americans did not vote for open borders or for governors who prioritize the comfort of illegal aliens over the safety of their own constituents. They voted for borders that mean something and for the removal of people who commit serious crimes. Hochul’s celebration of her ICE-blocking law is a clear statement: she sides with the other team. Treat her accordingly.
The next time a criminal illegal alien who should have been in ICE custody walks free and creates another American victim, remember who wrote the rules that made it possible. They are not progressives. They are not humanitarians. They are traitors to the republic. Arrest them. Every single one of them needs to be held accountable. Accessories to all crimes committed by the illegals.
