The claim
All the music, math, and drawing already exists somewhere. A hard hit, a stroke, or a lightning bolt knocks the receiver open. The person did not practice. The person accessed.
The medical name is acquired savant syndrome. It is rare. It is documented. The download-from-another-level part is the extra story.
Floor of fact. A small set of people — on the order of a few dozen well-described cases — develop high-level music, art, math, or calendar skill after brain injury, stroke, lightning, or certain dementias, with little or no prior training in that domain. Derek Amato (pool, 2006) sat down at a piano and played for hours. Jason Padgett (assault, 2002) started seeing geometry. Tony Cicoria (lightning, 1994) became obsessed with piano. Darold Treffert spent a career cataloging them. The leading hospital read is disinhibition, often toward the left anterior temporal lobe. The leading metaphysical read is the one Joe’s table likes.

What is actually known
- The syndrome has a name, case series, and review articles.
- The count is small.
- Music, visual art, mathematics, and calendar memory dominate.
- Many cases include obsession. The piano eats the week.
- Congenital savant syndrome is a different stack. Do not mash them into one myth.
