Ilhan Omar says she and her husband live a basic, paycheck-to-paycheck life—but new reporting has uncovered an extraordinary $11.25 million foreign-money trail involving her husband’s Rose Lake business network. In a sworn declaration, Will Hailer said UK-based OCI Limited sent Rose Lake Inc. two wires connected to an attempted purchase of Byju’s $1.2 billion term loan: $10 million followed by another $1.25 million. Hailer said Indian billionaire Byju Raveendran later instructed him to return the entire amount. The public filing describes that demand but does not establish whether the money was ultimately returned.
The timing raises serious questions because Omar’s original 2024 disclosure valued husband Tim Mynett’s interest in Rose Lake Capital LLC at between $5 million and $25 million and his winery at another $1 million to $5 million. Omar later amended the filing, changed both asset values to “None” and added between $100,001 and $1 million in Rose Lake partnership income. Her office blamed the original valuations on an accounting error involving liabilities, and Omar denies wrongdoing. U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro says her office is examining Omar’s financial disclosures, but Omar has not been charged. We break down what the court documents actually show—and why this unexplained money trail is attracting fresh scrutiny.
