Britain’s interior minister called the fatal stabbing of Southampton student Henry Nowak an “evil act,” as a watchdog investigates police conduct in the case. Nowak died after being stabbed in December 2025, and his killer, Vickrum Digwa, a 23-year-old man who falsely claimed he had been the victim of an assault, was sentenced to life in prison. Bodycam footage reportedly shows Nowak telling officers he had been stabbed and could not breathe while an officer initially downplayed his condition before emergency care was provided. Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood told Parliament the incident was “disturbing and tragic,” saying it has raised legitimate public questions about how it was handled. Hampshire Police has apologized and is now under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
