Records are braking as the movie dominates.
Despicable Me 4″ has taken the international box office by storm, grossing a whopping $88 million over the weekend and securing the top spot in global charts. The animated sequel’s cumulative worldwide earnings have now soared to an impressive $437.8 million. The “Despicable Me” franchise made history as the first animated series to make more than $5 billion in global revenue.
The latest installment features Steve Carell reprising his role as Gru, the reformed supervillain, who now faces his old schoolmate and rival, Maxime Le Mal, portrayed by Will Ferrell. “Despicable Me 4” is being screened in nearly 80 international markets, including a significant debut in China where it premiered on 35,000 screens across 11,000 locations, pulling in $11.8 million. The film is a production of Universal and Illumination.

Meanwhile, “Inside Out 2,” another animated hit, continues to perform well throughout the world. The Disney and Pixar film earned $50.2 million from 47 markets, bringing its international total to $777.5 million. This achievement positions it as the fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing “Despicable Me 3.” Globally, “Inside Out 2” has amassed an astounding $1.36 billion, making it the only 2024 release to join the exclusive $1 billion club.

Warner Bros. also garnered attention with the early international release of “Twisters,” the sequel to the 1996 hit “Twister.” The film opened in 38 markets, including Australia, Mexico, and Brazil, earning $11.5 million. “Twisters,” starring Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos, and directed by Lee Isaac Chung of “Minari” fame, is set to premiere in major European markets next week, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. Universal holds the North American distribution rights.
Paramount’s horror prequel, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” continues to draw audiences, grossing $10.4 million from 67 markets in its third weekend. This brings the film’s international earnings to $104.5 million, with a global total of $220.7 million.
