A "jihadist terrorist attack" — That is what the Israeli government is calling the attempted hijacking of a Fly-dubai flight bound for Tel Aviv.
The co-pilot allegedly attacked the other pilot in apparent attempt to wrest control of the aircraft.
The Israeli defense minister said in a statement that, based on initial reports, quote: “The terrorist had one intention: to crash the plane with all its passengers.”
Roughly two-and-a-half hours into the flight, violence broke out in the cockpit. The co-pilot reportedly stabbed the pilot while the plane was at cruising altitude.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that one of the passengers on board managed to break into the flight deck and overpower the attacker.
