Peter St. Onge posted the picture that should have ended the argument. On one side: Emma Schols, smiling through the wreckage of a body that took 93 percent burns after she ran back into a burning house — again and again — until all six of her children were outside. On the other: Lindsay Clancy, in a courtroom, the mother who wrapped exercise bands around the necks of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and baby Callan, 8 months. The scoreboard under the photos is the punchline the modern Left refuses to hear.
Emma’s community scraped together about $42,000. Clancy’s parents just blew past $1 million on GoFundMe. Same species of “mother.” Completely opposite civilizations.
If you still need a decoder ring for leftist moral priorities, congratulations: you just found it.
The Woman Who Actually Acted Like a Mother
September 3, 2019. Edsbyn, Sweden. Emma Schols is home alone with six kids. Two of the boys yell that the TV room is on fire. She does not workshop her feelings. She does not call a hotline and wait for a committee. She goes downstairs.
She gets children out. Then she goes back in. Then she goes back in again. Skin sloughs off as she climbs. She locks a door behind her so the ones already saved cannot follow her back into the inferno. The baby, Mollie, is still in a crib upstairs. Emma gets her too. When she finally collapses on the grass, burns cover almost her entire body. Doctors later put the number at 93 percent. Most people do not survive that. She spent weeks on a ventilator, more than 20 surgeries, months learning how to sit, stand, and live inside a rebuilt skin.
Her first question when she woke up was not about her face, her pain, or her future Instagram brand.
It was: Are my children alive?
They were. All six. Unharmed.
Sweden eventually named her Lifesaver of the Year. She wrote a book. She even ran a race on the anniversary of the fire so her kids could see that their mother was still in the fight. Local churches and a benefit hockey match raised a few hundred thousand kronor — roughly $42,000 at the time — plus some extra from community events. No TikTok army. No pink-shirt pilgrimage. No million-dollar “believe her” industrial complex. Just a scarred woman who treated motherhood as a duty, not a mood.
That is what a hero looks like when the cameras are not hunting a narrative.

Callan, the baby, is flown out in cardiac arrest, put on life support, and dies three days later. Clancy cuts her wrists and neck and jumps from a second-story window. She survives, paralyzed. Patrick comes home to blood, an open window, and then the basement. On the 911 tape he is screaming that she killed the kids.
Nobody serious disputes that she did it. The trial now underway this summer in Plymouth County is not a whodunit. It is a who-gets-excused-unit. Her lawyers say postpartum psychosis and a wrecked mental-health system erased criminal responsibility. Prosecutors say she planned the window of time, carried out three separate strangulations, then had the presence of mind to ask, from a hospital bed, whether she needed an attorney. The jury got the case this week.
Mental illness is real. Postpartum psychosis is real. A decent country can hold two thoughts at once: a sick woman needed better care, and three children are still dead because their mother put bands around their throats. The activist Left cannot hold the second thought. It interferes with the sacrament.

So they built a fandom.
Women in pink shirts mass outside the courthouse with “Believe” and “She Needed Help” slogans, making heart shapes with their hands for a defendant who admits she killed her children. Rallies spread to other countries. A TikToker with no family tie to the case launched a fundraiser for Clancy’s parents, Mike and Paula Musgrove. It cleared $800,000, then $1 million, on its way toward a $2 million goal — sold as travel, lodging, and “rebuilding financial stability” for parents who relocated to sit through their daughter’s murder trial. Tens of thousands of donors showed up. Columnists discovered nuance. Social media discovered a new martyr. Some corners of the internet even tried to smear the father.
Patrick Clancy buried three children and still managed to point leftover goodwill toward women actually struggling after childbirth. The activist choir pointed its goodwill at the woman who ended three childhoods. That is not compassion. That is a costume. Continued below this fast clip

Follow the Halo, Not the Hymn
St. Onge’s meme is not a perfect accounting ledger. Emma’s money was a 2019 Swedish church plate and a hockey benefit, not a 2026 American viral machine. Geography and timing matter. Fine. Grant the footnote.
Then look at what the footnote does not explain.
It does not explain why a mother who saved six children is a trivia question outside Scandinavia, while a mother who killed three is an international cause. It does not explain pink rallies, “We Are Lindsay Clancy” groups, and a million dollars sloshing toward the orbit of a child-killing case while the woman who walked through fire gets a polite Swedish plaque and a rounding error. It does not explain why elite media can produce a novella on Clancy’s inner weather and almost nothing on Emma’s rebuilt body. It does not explain Gad Saad’s phrase hanging over the replies like a diagnosis: suicidal empathy — the reflex to pour love onto the perpetrator until the victims become a footnote.
Leftism in 2026 is not “care for the vulnerable.” It is a prestige market. Vulnerability is a costume you put on the approved character. A burned Swedish mom who did her job is boring. She confirms the oldest truth in the species: a parent’s body is supposed to be a shield. There is no op-ed franchise in that. There is no chance to indict “the system,” patriarchy, underfunded feelings, or the universe for being unfair to a woman who did something unforgivable.

Clancy is catnip. She lets a certain kind of progressive woman look in the mirror and whisper, it could have been me, which is a thrilling thought if you have been trained to treat motherhood as an injury and agency as optional. The dead children become props in a seminar about how society failed their killer. Cora liked taking care of people. Dawson liked firetrucks and Paw Patrol. Callan was “just a happy baby.” They do not get T-shirts.
This is the same moral software that turns rioters into “mostly peaceful” avatars, illegal border crossers into sacred objects, and American taxpayers into the villain of every story. Donald Trump’s entire political existence is a long argument against that inversion: borders mean something, boys are not girls, criminals are not mascots, and children are not collateral in your therapy language. A movement that cannot tell Emma Schols from Lindsay Clancy is not “too compassionate.” It is lost.
Clown World Keeps a Ledger
GoFundMe will host a million dollars for the parents of a woman on trial for strangling her kids. The same platform and the same cultural class spent years trying to starve truckers, bakers, and anyone who annoyed the regime. That is not a glitch. That is the product.
A healthy culture throws parades for the woman who ran into the fire. A sick culture throws fundraisers for the woman who ran the bands tight and then asks you to admire her suffering. Emma Schols still carries the scars and, she says, carries them with pride. Lindsay Clancy’s chorus wants you to carry her scars for her — and to forget the three small bodies in the basement while you do it.
If that is “empathy,” the country has had enough of it. Reward the mother who went back in. Stop minting saints out of the one who did not.
America First starts with something even simpler than a border.
Children first. Heroes first. Reality first.
The Left can keep the pink shirts and the million-dollar halo. We’ll keep the woman who walked through the flames. America understands the difference. Yet the Left, with their heads up their rears, are backed by a serious amount of stolen money from tax payers that has never been paid back. They stole billions from us all, and never gave any back from USAID scams. They got rich and use our own tax dollars to fund their crazy ways that repel over 75% of Americans.
