Russell Brand Court Bombshell! What The Jury Just Heard
Russell Brand’s trial has now moved far beyond opening statements. During the first week, jurors heard directly from two complainants and saw photographs taken in a Bournemouth hotel room on the night of the first alleged rape in 1999.
The first woman said Brand asked her to photograph him “prancing” before the alleged assault. Brand’s barrister challenged her memory and highlighted that she had described him as wearing underwear even though the photographs showed trousers. She rejected the suggestion that the encounter was consensual.
A second woman alleged that Brand became a “wild-eyed maniac” and tried to drag her into a toilet at an MTV office in 2001. The defence characterised the encounter as minor and challenged her recollection; she maintained that she had to wrench herself free.
Monday then brought testimony from a third complainant, who alleges Brand groped her after meeting her at a Soho party in 2004 before dragging her into a toilet and forcing a sex act. Brand’s position is that the encounter was consensual and has since been “re-imagined.”
During cross-examination, Brand’s barrister called the alleged sequence “physically impossible,” suggested the woman entered the toilet willingly and questioned why her previous disclosures differed from the rape allegation she reported following the 2023 coverage. She rejected those claims.
Brand has pleaded not guilty to all seven charges. “Strikes back” refers to his defence challenging the allegations in court—Brand hasn’t personally testified, and the jury hasn’t returned a verdict.
