A Dearborn woman with a concealed carry permit won’t be charged after shooting a man who attacked her boyfriend inside a shoe store. Prosecutors say there isn’t enough evidence to disprove self-defense. Tim shows the (blurred) surveillance footage and argues she did everything right: she got her permit, stopped a violent threat, and should be called a hero. Police say the man who started the fight could still face charges.
Dearborn Woman With Carry Permit Stops Attack on Boyfriend. Prosecutors Clear Her.
A 30-year-old Dearborn woman with a Michigan concealed pistol license stopped a man who was beating her boyfriend inside a shoe store last Saturday. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said it will not charge her.
The fight happened just after 6 p.m. on October 17 at White House Kicks near Ford Road and Oakman Boulevard. Security video released by Dearborn police shows the couple walk in. The 36-year-old boyfriend, in a gray tracksuit, greets a man who looks like a shopper. Seconds later a 33-year-old man in blue attacks him.
The woman, wearing a pink jacket, reaches into her purse, pulls a handgun, and fires. A witness who spoke to WXYZ estimated three or four shots. The man was hit in the back and remained in critical condition. The woman stayed at the scene and called 911 herself. Dispatch audio caught her saying she just had to shoot somebody.
Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said the people involved appeared to know each other. “It’s clear they were acquaintances somehow before they saw each other inside the store, and obviously they didn’t like each other, because it escalated into a fight,” he told WXYZ. Shahin added that charges against whoever started the fight are still possible. The prosecutor’s office reviewed the video and other evidence and said there is not enough proof to show she was not acting in self-defense or to protect someone else.

Tim Pool walked through the blurred surveillance footage on his show and said she did everything right: she got the permit, stopped a violent threat, and should be called a hero. Police noted the aggressor could still face charges.
Cases like this keep showing up. Last week in Bend, Oregon, 36-year-old Kaylub Giamanco was driving past Silver Rail Elementary when he saw a 16-year-old gunman force his way into the school his daughters attend. He grabbed his legally carried .40-caliber pistol from his truck, followed the shooter inside, and fired after seeing a teacher struggling with him. The gunman died. Three children and a teacher had already been killed, but police and President Trump credited Giamanco with stopping further bloodshed.
In Georgia on October 8, DoorDash driver Tyler Reese was shoved outside a restaurant, then threatened when he tried to leave. A man lunged through his open car door after saying he would take the vehicle and the gun. Reese fired three shots. Columbia County investigators called it clear self-defense based on video and witnesses. No charges against him.

Researchers at the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University reviewed hundreds of active attacks between 2000 and 2025. In 29 of those cases an armed civilian shot the attacker and helped end the incident before police arrived. The rest of the time unarmed people or other methods stopped it, or the attack continued until officers got there.
The Dearborn woman had the permit, stayed on scene, and called for help. Prosecutors looked at the tape and walked away. The man who started the fight may still answer for it. That is how self-defense is supposed to work when someone is carrying.
