Tensions escalated in India’s Narayanpur following the expulsion of local families accused of converting to Christianity. Families who had converted to Christianity were allegedly beaten and forced out of their homes. The families took shelter under trees outside the village amid heavy police presence until peace returned to the village after mediation and counsel by district administration and senior police officials.
Narayanpur, a tribal-majority district in India’s Chhattisgarh state, has seen recurring tensions and violence targeting Indigenous Adivasi families who converted to Christianity. The conflicts often arise from demands that Christian converts renounce their faith and take part in traditional tribal religious practices.
