A street, “Little Palestine Way” in Illinois, now bears the name Wadea Al-Fayoume, the 6-year-old Palestinian American boy who was fatally stabbed 26 times by his landlord in a devastating anti-Muslim hate crime in October 2023. Hundreds gathered in Bridgeview, home to one of the largest Palestinian communities in the US, to unveil the sign honouring the little boy whose life was tragically cut short.
His mother, Hanaan Shahin, was severely injured but survived the attack. While his killer is now serving a 53-year prison sentence, the new street sign ensures Wadea’s name and memory remain a permanent fixture in the city.
