HERO DAD SPEAKS! Brutal New Details From Oregon School Massacre
OPB has now released the full 45-minute interview with Kaylub Giamanco, the father who followed the Silver Rail Elementary attacker into the building—and when his account is combined with wounded teacher Becky Drury’s own statement, the sequence inside that classroom becomes even more horrifying. Drury says she ran toward the commotion, saw the armed teenager and tried to retreat and close the classroom door, but he was already there. A close-range shotgun blast nearly severed her left hand and badly injured her other arm, leaving her unable to stand or defend anyone. She survived by pretending to be dead and has now specifically corrected early reports claiming she threw herself over a child.=
Drury was not the unidentified teacher who later threw a phone at the attacker and wrestled him for control of the shotgun. That teacher created the opening Giamanco needed after he saw the teenager shooting outside, retrieved his legally secured pistol, called 911 and pursued him into the school. Giamanco says he entered through shattered glass, heard children pleading for their lives and fired after seeing the teacher grappling with the gunman. Three children and teacher Megan Lambert were killed; Drury and seven-year-old Saylor Graham-Poarch were seriously wounded. In a hopeful update Monday, Saylor’s family said she is now stable and has moved out of intensive care, although she faces a long recovery. Police credit Giamanco and the unidentified teacher with saving lives, but Giamanco says he remains haunted by those he could not reach and does not want his actions reduced to partisan politics.
