Two headlines out of Washington landed on Nvidia this week. Jake Conley takes the simpler one first: Reuters reports the Justice Department is examining Nvidia’s purchase of Hugging Face on antitrust grounds, a deal expected to close next year. Then the New York Times reports that US intelligence officials concluded a senior executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed had been passing information to Beijing while cultivating a close relationship with Nvidia’s chief executive. The president was briefed roughly a year ago and took no action, and no defensive briefing was ever given. Nvidia says its dealings with the firm were no different from those with other regional customers.
