God says ALL of these events are connected, unstoppable, and pointing us towards the End of Days. To help our Next Generation students fit it all together from the Scriptures–I just put together a five part study on Iran, the Prince of Persia, and the Road to Armageddon. This is part 5.
Scripture makes a sobering end-times declaration: physical death is not the end of existence. While our physical bodies die, every human soul is immortal, retaining full sensory consciousness, memory, and moral accountability beyond the grave. Old Testament revelation demonstrates that all deceased souls originally descended into the depths of the earth—the pit or the grave (sheol).
Jesus pulls back the veil on this realm in Luke 16, showing that Hades contained two compartments separated by an uncrossable gulf: Abraham’s bosom for the righteous, and a place of conscious torment where unrequited desires and painful memories persist without relief.
Yet Hades is merely a temporary intermediate state. In the end of days, Gehenna—the Lake of Fire—will receive the Beast, the False Prophet, Satan, and all unrepentant souls whose names are absent from the Book of Life, consigning them to eternal fire and the blackness of darkness forever.
This reality issues a piercing devotional challenge for our daily lives. Jesus commands us to take radical, decisive action against sin today—cutting off habits of compromise before they entrench us for eternity.
The voice from the grave cries out that God’s written Word is our only window of mercy. Today, while grace remains, we must examine our hearts, repent of habit sin, and anchor our trust in Jesus Christ, who alone delivers us from the coming judgment.
