What a joy it is to step into the classroom of God’s Word with you today! Have you ever wondered what you will actually see, hear, and experience the split second you step into glory?
Today, we are pulling back the veil and opening up Revelation chapter 4 to examine the majestic, spectacular layout of our eternal home in our lesson today.
Here is a look at the blueprint of the place we are heading to, and why we need to get ready right now:
1. IPHONE EYES AND THE MICHIGAN-SIZED SEA OF GLASS
Scripture References: Revelation 4:5-6
Summary: When you arrive in heaven, the first thing you will notice under your feet is a perfectly flat, reflective crystal surface that catches, refracts, and amplifies the incredible lightning and glory radiating from the throne. Even though this sea of glass is as vast as the entire state of Michigan, we will not be limited by our physical senses. God is going to equip us with what I call supernatural "iPhone eyes"—an unlimited telephoto vision that allows us to zoom in and see everything clearly, with no distance barriers at all.
2. THE FOUR-FACED CHERUBIM ORBIT
Scripture References: Revelation 4:6-8; Ezekiel
Summary: Flying and orbiting directly above the throne are the four cherubim, covered in eyes and six wings. These magnificent creatures fly with one of their four faces constantly locked onto the throne. Each face represents a distinct portrait of Jesus Christ that matches the four Gospels—Matthew’s Kingly Lion, Mark’s Servant Calf, Luke’s Perfect Man, and John’s soaring Eagle—and they perfectly correspond to the tribal ensigns Israel carried through the wilderness. They lead all of heaven’s worship, and every single time they cry out "Holy, Holy, Holy," everyone falls on their faces.
3. THE SEVEN ARCHANGELS: NOT A JFK MEMORIAL GAS FLAME
Scripture References: Revelation 4:5; Hebrews 1; Isaiah
Summary: Around the throne, John saw seven burning flames. These are not static, quiet lights like the JFK memorial gas flame. Scripture reveals that these are actually the seven blazing archangels of God—including Michael and Gabriel—standing as ministering spirits and roaring flames of fire. They stand facing the throne, ready to be sent on God’s missions, and they are the very ones who lead the immense joy in heaven every single time a sinner on earth repents.
4. THE EPICENTER, THE ELDERS, AND THE RINGS OF WORSHIP
Scripture References: Daniel; Revelation 4
Summary: God’s throne room is designed in beautiful, concentric rings. At the absolute epicenter is the throne itself, flashing with fire and lightning, with a mighty river of fire flowing out from it. Orbiting just above are the four cherubim, followed by the standing seven archangels, an inner ring of 24 elders seated on smaller thrones, the massive sea of glass, and finally, an outer host of hundreds of millions of angels. This is our exact destination, and we should be actively preparing our hearts for it today.
