Russia struck Ukraine’s power grid hours after Trump’s energy ceasefire, and Trump insists the deal is holding. With diesel prices near record highs and Trump’s approval at 30%, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Putin diesel deal and gas prices could decide the 2026 midterms for the GOP.

Russia Hits Ukrainian Energy Sites Hours After Trump’s Energy Ceasefire Post – Diesel Prices Stay Brutal Ahead of Midterms
Hours after President Trump posted on Truth Social that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an “energy ceasefire” effective immediately, Russian forces struck Ukrainian power and gas facilities. Trump wrote: “Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” Kyiv says the post was news to them. Zelenskyy later stated Ukraine held off on hitting Russian oil refineries that night while Russian drones and missiles hit a power plant in Kharkiv, gas production sites, and other infrastructure. “It was clear that Putin does not read Truth Social,” Zelenskyy said. Parts of Ukrainian cities went dark again.
The Kremlin has not confirmed any such deal. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said contacts continue but Russia wants a lasting peace settlement, not a temporary pause. Moscow rejected Zelenskyy’s offer of a 60-day full ceasefire so Ukraine could hold elections. Russia continues its long war of attrition, targeting energy systems as winter approaches.

This followed Trump’s Friday announcement of a diesel supply deal with Putin. Russia would send more than 300,000 tons of diesel immediately, another 500,000 tons in November, and larger amounts later, with the U.S. temporarily easing sanctions to allow it. The goal was clear: bring more fuel to global markets and ease record U.S. diesel prices before the November midterms. National average diesel has hovered near or above $6 a gallon in recent weeks—far above levels a year earlier—driven by the Middle East fighting that disrupted the Strait of Hormuz plus Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian refineries. Trump has pointed to those Ukrainian strikes as a factor keeping prices high for American farmers, truckers, and consumers. He has also said Ukrainians should elect a new leader more willing to cut a deal.
Trump has stuck to the line that both sides want a deal and that Putin is more eager for one than Zelenskyy. When pressed on the lack of clear confirmation and the immediate Russian strikes, he noted the parties agreed because he said they agreed. Ukraine maintains it is ready for reciprocal energy restraint if Russia actually stops. European allies have expressed frustration with the diesel arrangement, arguing it gives Moscow revenue while the war continues.

Forces are working to create the most damage to the U.S. economy or at least to make the impression using the Left’s control over 90% of media in the U.S. If they are successful on Nov 3rd, through their fake news and voter fraud, America is about to be a very different nation come 2027.
