A chaotic scene unfolded Thursday evening when a driver, suspected of multiple hit-and-run crashes, was arrested after driving onto Folsom Field at the University of Colorado Boulder. The Boulder Police Department first received a call at around 6:45 p.m. regarding a series of hit-and-run incidents near Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe Avenue. Witnesses reported that a blue pickup truck was responsible for at least two crashes, and the driver had also collided with several trees and street signs before fleeing the scene.

Efforts were made by bystanders to stop the erratic driver, but he managed to escape, allegedly hitting another vehicle and more trees in the process. Boulder police officers attempted to intercept the driver, but he managed to evade them. He was spotted again a short time later near Colorado and 28th Street.
The pursuit continued as the driver approached Stadium Drive, where officers from the CU Boulder Police Department joined the effort to stop the vehicle. The driver, however, rammed through a gate and ultimately drove onto the turf at Folsom Field, the university’s football stadium. The chase finally ended when the driver exited the vehicle and surrendered after a brief negotiation.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Karl E. Haglund from Massachusetts, now faces numerous charges. These include criminal attempt at vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and vehicular eluding. He is also charged with leaving the scene of multiple crashes, trespassing, driving without insurance, and obstruction of a peace officer, among other offenses. Damage to the stadium field is being assessed, though CU Athletics officials have indicated that the field should still be ready for their upcoming home game against Baylor University on September 21.

Boulder police continue to investigate the incident, and they are encouraging anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim of the driver’s rampage to contact the department.
