    A convicted child predator has been arrested after allegedly entering a Planet Fitness women’s locker room and attacking two women.
    One victim reportedly required hospital treatment, while a second says she was attacked after running in to help. Planet Fitness cancelled the suspect’s membership—but its self-identified gender policy is now facing renewed scrutiny over locker-room safety.

    Planet Fitness kept the women’s locker room open to any man who said the right words. On Oct. 1, a convicted child rapist walked into one in Cambridge and attacked two women.

    Cambridge police got the call just after 9 a.m. A sexual assault was in progress in the women’s locker room at the Porter Square Planet Fitness, 1815 Massachusetts Avenue. Officers arrested Laquan Holland, 40, on scene. Prosecutors say he had brought a woman he knew to the gym to use the showers, then hit her, groped her, tried to pull her clothes off, and blocked her from leaving once she fled into the women’s locker room. A second woman, identified in some reports as a gym employee, ran in to help. He allegedly groped her too and tried to force her hand onto his body. One victim was taken to the hospital. A not-guilty plea was entered. He is held pending a dangerousness hearing on Oct. 16.

    Holland is not a mystery man. In 2006 he pleaded guilty to two counts of child rape and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. He was ordered to register as a sex offender. Cambridge police arrested him again on Aug. 25 for failing to register, a subsequent offense. That charge was dismissed on the condition that he finish the paperwork. He registered on Aug. 27. Five weeks later he was inside the women’s locker room. Planet Fitness told Fox News the franchise canceled his membership after the arrest and is cooperating with investigators. NBC Boston asked whether members are screened at all. The company did not answer.

    The chain’s line is the Judgment Free Zone. Chief corporate affairs officer McCall Gosselin has said members and guests may use the facilities that match their “sincere, self-reported gender identity.” The written policy adds that a woman’s discomfort is not a reason to deny that access. Staff are told to treat the claim as the rule. Photograph the man and you violate the phone policy. Complain loud enough and you can lose the membership. Holland’s case does not rest on a claim that he dressed as a woman. Prosecutors say he followed a woman into the room. The policy is why a front desk is trained not to stop a man at that door in the first place.

    The pattern is older than Cambridge.

    Monroe, Georgia, September 2023. JaKorbie Dixon, 25, was arrested after a naked man pulled back a shower curtain on a 15-year-old girl in the women’s locker room at Planet Fitness. Police said he was a member under a false name. He was also accused of exposing himself to a 19-year-old female employee. Reduxx reported that staff told the family he had a right to the women’s side under the self-ID rule.

    Fairbanks, March 11, 2024. Patricia Silva walked into the women’s locker room and found a man shaving. She says he told her he was “LGB queer, transitioning.” She took a photo and posted it. Planet Fitness revoked her membership for the phone rule and stood by the man. Elon Musk called the chain “a creepy place.” Market value fell from about $5.3 billion on March 14 to $4.9 billion on March 19, a hit of roughly $400 million that Newsweek and Fox Business tied to the boycott.

    Fairfax County, June 2024. Richard Cox, a registered sex offender, was charged after a woman said she saw him naked in a Planet Fitness women’s restroom. Court papers say Cox identifies as transgender and used the women’s locker rooms at two Planet Fitness clubs, one of them next to a children’s play place. Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano declined to prosecute. A judge dismissed the charge. Months later police said Cox exposed himself in school and rec-center women’s locker rooms.

    Concord, California, May 2025, viral in January 2026. Grace Hutson filmed what she says was a man masturbating in a stall in the women’s bathroom at Planet Fitness. Confronted, he said he was transgender and allowed to be there, and denied the act. Hutson says staff did not know what to do. She later said she should have called the police. Libs of TikTok posted the clip. It drew more than a million views.

    Concord, New Hampshire, May 2026. Judy Walcott told the front desk a man was hanging his things outside a shower in the women’s locker room. Staff said the inclusivity policy left them nothing to do. The manager later canceled her membership for a policy violation. New Hampshire state Rep. Lisa Mazur identified the man as Christopher Beaulieu, previously convicted of felonious sexual assault of a minor, and said he began transitioning in prison. Libs of TikTok carried it. That identification is the reporting, not a new criminal charge out of the gym.

    X treated Cambridge as the latest door, not a one-off. REDUXX wrote that a convicted child rapist was in custody after sexually assaulting multiple women in an “inclusive” female locker room, and noted the chain has defended letting males into the women’s areas. That post cleared 2.5 million views. Sall Grover, who runs the women-only app Giggle, put the policy point in one place: once any man can claim to be a woman, reception, management, and other members lose the right to say he does not belong there. Libs of TikTok has been on the same beat since Fairbanks: the chain lets men into the women’s rooms, and the woman who complains becomes the problem.

    Critics on X, including accounts defending the policy, argue Holland never claimed a female identity and that the attack started before the locker room. That is a fair limit on this one case. It does not touch Monroe, Fairbanks, Fairfax, Concord California, or Concord New Hampshire. Those are men in women’s rooms under the self-ID rule, and in three of them the record includes a sex offense or an exposure charge.

    Planet Fitness can cancel a card after the arrest. It already proved it can cancel a card the same day a woman takes a photo. The second lever is the one it uses. The first one waits for the hospital and the holding cell.

    Sgt. Pat: You do not screen the member. You do not stop the man at the locker-room door. You fire the woman who films him. Then you act surprised when the child rapist is the one still inside. That is a policy. Own it. As far as I’m concerned, I think your whole outfit should be fined heavily for crimes against American women.
