Madonna and Taylor Swift led the nominees of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live on CBS Sept. 27. The show is also bringing back the Best Dance category for the first time since 2019. Madonna leads the 2026 MTV VMA nominations with 11 nods for her Confessions II era, including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year, while Swift follows with nine nominations and will compete against Madonna in both top categories. Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter earned seven nominations each, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson scored five apiece. BLACKPINK’s LISA received four nominations, with Shakira and Tate McRae each earning three. Swift could also make MTV VMAs history on music’s biggest night. The singer is currently tied with Beyoncé for the most VMA wins ever, with 30, meaning another Moon Person would put her out in front. First-time nominees Sienna Spiro, CORTIS and Stella Lefty are all competing for Best New Artist, while Kali Uchis, Noah Kahan and Olivia Dean are also hoping to take home their first-ever VMA. And with Best Dance returning after a seven-year absence, Madonna, McRae, PinkPantheress and Larsson will face off against Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha, Slayyyter, Lady Gaga and Doechii, whose collaboration “RUNWAY” appears in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will air live on CBS and MTV Sept. 27, with fan voting open in 13 categories through Sept. 25.
