Posts from a deleted Reddit account reportedly belonging to Patrick Clancy reveal how urgently he was searching for answers as Lindsay Clancy’s mental health deteriorated in the weeks before she killed their three children.
In December 2022, Patrick wrote on Lindsay’s behalf that her anxiety had been mild before she began taking Zoloft, which he said had originally been his suggestion. The posts describe severe insomnia, including one period of 48 hours without sleep, rapid weight loss and symptoms a psychiatrist reportedly believed could indicate bipolar disorder.
On December 9, Patrick asked other users whether their medication experiences had ever included thoughts of hurting loved ones and whether they felt close to acting on them.
By December 15, he described Lindsay as severely depressed, numb and experiencing suicidal thoughts. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, later turned away from a postpartum program that believed she required broader psychiatric care, and admitted to McLean Hospital from December 30 until January 5.
Patrick’s final reported Reddit post appeared January 23, 2023—one day before the killings—and concerned developing an app for a real-estate open house.
The posts add important contemporaneous evidence that the family recognized a dramatic psychiatric decline and actively sought medical help. They do not independently establish that medication caused the killings or resolve whether Lindsay met Massachusetts’ legal standard for insanity.
The account was deleted, but reporting connected one post’s email address to an address referenced during forensic testimony at trial. Lindsay’s trial ended in an 11–1 mistrial, and prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will try her again.
