Homeland Security investigators executed a court-approved, pre-dawn search at Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home as part of an ongoing federal criminal immigration investigation—and agents were photographed carrying out boxes marked as seized evidence. New reporting says investigators are digging into the decades-old paperwork behind how Omar derived citizenship through her father, including allegations involving her recorded birth year and information her late father supplied during his own immigration process. Some relatives have reportedly received grand-jury subpoenas, while the warrant reportedly listed potential offenses including conspiracy, immigration fraud and false statements. Omar has not been charged, denies wrongdoing and calls the entire operation political intimidation.
Now, no—a sitting naturalized American citizen cannot simply be thrown on a plane because the administration dislikes her. The government would first need to prove that citizenship was illegally obtained or secured through material concealment or willful misrepresentation, win a denaturalization case, and then pursue removal separately. That is an enormous legal hill to climb, and a search warrant is not a guilty verdict. But this is still a stunning escalation: federal agents searched a member of Congress’s home, her immigration history is reportedly under active scrutiny, and a separate investigation is now examining her financial disclosures. For the first time, the “deport Ilhan Omar” chants have collided with an actual federal process that could test whether she was legally entitled to citizenship at all.
