CCTV footage shows a red Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV pitching up and crashing during a hover at Cedar City Regional Airport in Utah on May 23. The helicopter, operated by Southern Utah University Aviation, reportedly lost control after the flight instructor reached across to adjust the engine governor. The helicopter moved backward, descended and struck the ground before becoming airborne again and spinning into another impact. The NTSB’s final report, released September 3, found that the crash was caused by the instructor losing control while adjusting the governor, with no mechanical malfunction reported.
