Former special counsel Jack Smith squared off with Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee who accused him Tuesday of illegally targeting President Trump and GOP lawmakers.
In the most stunning moment of the hearing, Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) claimed Smith had perjured himself by denying that he had coordinated his case against the 45th president with Atlanta District Attorney Fani Willis. “In the famous words of the chief of the secret police under [Soviet dictator Josef] Stalin, ‘Show me the man, I’ll show you the crime.’ You may think you’re a hero in this story, but let me tell you something. You’re the villain,” Schmitt raged. “You will go down as a total dirtbag.”
