Chicago teen on pretrial release for carjacking shoots pregnant classmate, paralyzes her and ends her pregnancy – The Democrat infestation in America kills thousands and thousands, maims ten of thousands a year.
A 17-year-old Chicago student named Angel Funez-Reyes shot a 16-year-old classmate in the back on September 7. She was six weeks pregnant. Prosecutors say the bullet left her unable to walk again and caused her to lose the baby. He was already awaiting trial on a carjacking case when it happened.
Funez-Reyes and the victim were in the same art class at Latino Youth High School. He asked about her gang ties and made vulgar comments, according to prosecutors. Earlier that day he pointed a gun at her and her boyfriend from across the street. That night, around the 2200 block of South Sawyer Avenue, she saw the gun again, told a friend to record, and confronted him. As she turned away he shot her and ran to a waiting black car. Two people saw it; one gave police video.

He had been on electronic monitoring for the carjacking. A judge took the ankle monitor off on August 18, about three weeks earlier. Two days before the shooting, police arrested him after a citizen said he shouted gang slurs, asked “What you is?” and swung a knife. Officers recovered a utility knife and two 9mm rounds. He was released. When police later arrested him for the shooting he had a 9-inch blade in his waistband. Judge Luciano Panici Jr. ordered him detained afterward and noted his gang ties. He is charged with aggravated battery by discharging a firearm. CWB Chicago has tracked him as one of roughly a dozen people this year in Chicago accused of killing or trying to kill someone while on felony pretrial release.
Illinois ended cash bail with the SAFE-T Act. Judges decide who stays locked up based on danger or flight risk. Critics say the rules and the people applying them keep putting violent defendants back on the street. Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans once claimed the reforms produced no horrible incidents. Local trackers have documented dozens of later murders and attempted murders by people out on pretrial release.

The same pattern shows up elsewhere in the city. Terry King was free under the SAFE-T Act after he punched a police officer at a Red Line station. Aggravated battery of an officer does not automatically qualify for detention unless the officer suffers great bodily harm. On September 17 he allegedly shot two men on the South Side and stomped one victim’s head after the man fell. Prosecutors say he has prior felony convictions including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. A judge later detained him on the new attempted murder charges.
Earlier this year Alphanso Talley was on electronic monitoring for armed robbery and carjacking charges despite a long record that included prior convictions. A judge released him even though prosecutors objected. Talley is now charged with murdering Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew, 38, and wounding another officer at a hospital. Police union officials and Republicans in Springfield pointed to the SAFE-T Act and the release decision. One police official said the cashless system let him out when a high cash bond under the old rules would have kept him in.
In February 2024 another Chicago high school student, Keion Thomas, 17, was on pretrial release for aggravated carjacking and gun cases when he shot and killed classmate Kayvone Gardner at an Englewood gas station, prosecutors said. Video and witnesses tied him to the shooting. He had another gun when police arrested him.

Outside Illinois the results look similar. In Charlotte, Decarlos Brown Jr. had at least 14 prior arrests including robbery with a dangerous firearm. After a January 2025 arrest for misusing 911, a magistrate released him on a written promise to appear. In August he stabbed Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska to death on a light rail train in an unprovoked attack caught on video. The case produced “Iryna’s Law,” which restricts cashless bail for certain violent offenders in North Carolina.
New York has refused to honor more than 16,000 ICE detainers since January 2025. Those cases involved tens of thousands of charges including more than 100 homicides, over a thousand sexual offenses, and thousands of assaults, robberies, and weapons crimes. Recent examples include illegal aliens previously arrested and released who later stabbed an off-duty NYPD detective. House Judiciary Republicans have documented similar releases in Illinois and Chicago of aliens with violent records who then reoffended.

In Pittsburgh a man accused of a serious stabbing was released the same day on cashless bail. Eight days later police named him the suspect in a second stabbing.
These are not isolated paperwork mistakes. Democratic governors, mayors, and legislators in multiple states pushed the laws that replaced cash bail with judicial discretion and limited the offenses that automatically keep people locked up. Sanctuary rules in the same cities block federal detainers. When the system releases someone already charged with carjacking, armed robbery, or repeated violence, and that person then shoots a pregnant classmate or kills a police officer, the policy choices are on the record.
Voters in those cities and states keep electing the people who wrote and defend the rules. The victims and their families pay the cost. We must now look at these ‘elections’ and question whether they are real. From Whatfinger News reports just in the last few weeks, we know they are not. Elections in Democrat areas are fixed. It is impossible to defeat the Marxist Democrats in Blue states thanks to voter fraud. ONLY Federal intervention or a real Civil War will change this. The New Slave Blue States are rising.
