Cornell Goes NUCLEAR! Every Frat House Party BANNED Until 2027
Cornell has officially gone nuclear over the fallout from the “Cornell Seven” case. The university isn’t merely suspending one troubled fraternity or cancelling a few weekend parties: every party and social event inside its more than 20 Interfraternity Council houses has been shut down for the remainder of the 2026–27 academic year. The order took effect immediately, and Cornell says any chapter caught violating it will receive an emergency suspension. The move follows weeks of national outrage, campus protests and a lawsuit in which a former student alleges she was drugged and sexually assaulted by multiple men at the Chi Phi house in October 2024.
President Michael Kotlikoff says Cornell needs time to decide “whether and how” fraternity life can safely continue. The school is also bringing independent New York State Police investigators into sexual-assault cases, adding survivor-support staff and promising university-funded alternatives to Greek-life parties. But this sweeping ban arrives only after a lawsuit, thousands of protesters and the threat of a faculty no-confidence vote forced the administration’s hand. Critics warn that banning every fraternity-house event could simply push parties off campus, where Cornell has even less oversight. The seven men named in the civil lawsuit deny the allegations or deny involvement, and no criminal charges have been filed. Is this serious reform—or a university-wide panic button designed to contain a scandal it failed to confront two years ago?
