Candice Bergen recently detailed a time she added a little too much fuel to her fire—literally—while studying in Switzerland at age 14. She explained to Ted Danson on his ‘Where Everybody Knows Your Name’ podcast, “It was the Olden in Gstaad in a ski resort where the school I was going to was set, I had snuck out. Because I was only 14, I wasn’t allowed to go out at night, so I’d snuck out.” And while the restaurant—that had been standing in Switzerland since 1895—was reopened after a period of repairs and has been functioning quite well in the decades since, some flames leave permanent scars, as Bergen would discover years later.
