Nearly 1,500 runners from more than 50 countries competed in the 23rd Great Wall Marathon in northern China, taking on steep stone steps, mountain roads and village paths along one of the world’s toughest marathon courses. Held at the Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall, the event featured full and half marathons plus a 5.3-mile fun run, with participants climbing more than 5,000 steps during the race. A 26-year-old Florida man was arrested for DUI after deputies found him passed out behind the wheel at a gas station in Plant City with his 5-year-old son in the backseat and a handgun visible inside the vehicle. Police in rural France warned drivers to watch for deer behaving erratically after consuming fermented fruits and decaying plants. A church bell tower in northern Italy partially collapsed after being struck by lightning Friday evening. A driver in Wisconsin launched his car off an embankment during a dramatic police chase on May 9. Officers from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were chasing down the driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes, who had fled from a traffic stop and had a felony warrant. After launching his car from the ditch, Stokes fled on foot before officers apprehended him. Bodycam footage released by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows the moment Deputy Robert Fitch was ambushed while responding to a suspicious person call in Ocala on May 13. After exiting his patrol vehicle on a residential street, Fitch was immediately attacked by a suspect with a knife.
