Just getting an MRI here you are also billed for “hospital fees” I looked into this and it’s definitely separate from the hospital – Stanford Medicine Imaging Center at 451 Sherman Ave, Palo Alto is a Stanford Health Care site – Stanford’s own pages brand it as an “imaging center” offering MRI and CT – The main hospital at 300 Pasteur Drive But because it’s part of the “hospital system” they are billing as if they’re a hospital and adding on all these fees You ready for this, Under current federal rules, off-campus HOPDs more than 250 yards from the main hospital can still bill as hospital outpatient What a SCAM We need healthcare reform and we need it right now

- My family doc was bought out by a university academic medical system. I was charged $700 just to walk through the same doors I had ten times before. “Facility Fee”. Lab expenses tripled. Legalized theft.

- It’s called a facility fee. If a clinic or imaging center is attached to a hospital, the facility can bill as if it were on the hospital campus. This increases fees and reimbursement from payouts. Clinics and imaging centers not structured in the same way get paid significantly less by Medicare and insurances. They also tend to charge less as well. An mri at a stand alone center is 600-1000 dollars. Sometime less. Always ask. Facility fees are clearly wrong, but the hospital have the money to lobby the politicians. – Brian W

- Hubby went to the ER and no one could tell him what the cost would be. Blue Cross said it’s the medical facility’s responsibility and the medical facility said they had no idea (even with his Ins info) and that Blue Cross will know. They’re all corrupt. – Just Me
