Kiefer, who had previously defeated Canada’s Eleanor Harvey in the semifinals, became the first American woman to win back-to-back gold medals in the individual foil event.

Lauren Scruggs, who had a strong performance in the semifinals against Italy’s Alice Volpi, settled for a silver medal after her loss to Kiefer in the final. This victory added to the United States’ medal tally, bringing the total to 12 medals, including three golds. Kiefer’s win follows golds by the men’s swimming 4×100-meter freestyle team and swimmer Torri Huske.

Eleanor Harvey, representing Canada, won the bronze medal by defeating Alice Volpi 15-12. This was Harvey’s first Olympic medal, adding to her previous successes, including a gold medal at the 2022 Pan American Fencing Competition and a silver in 2024.
