“We are facing a crisis of human civilisation. And we are going to win.”
A defiant Jean-Luc Mélenchon was in fighting mood today as he presented his presidential manifesto at Le Bourget, north of Paris.
It is his fourth bid for the French presidency, and he has chosen a venue steeped in left-wing campaign history: the site of François Hollande’s famous 2012 rally.
With social unrest growing, protests over the cost of living continuing and France’s political landscape increasingly polarised, Mélenchon is hoping to turn public anger into electoral momentum.
His manifesto promises sweeping economic change, from higher wages and price controls to reversing pension reform. But his combative style remains deeply divisive, with critics questioning whether he can broaden his appeal enough to win.
Is this Mélenchon’s moment – or his last stand?
