Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, JD Vance, recently criticized Liz Cheney and John McCain’s son for endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, dismissing them as irrelevant within the Republican Party. Vance, speaking from a campaign event in Phoenix, labeled the pair as “rejects” who no longer wield influence within the GOP, underscoring Harris’s endorsements from them as insignificant.

Vance, a Senator from Ohio, conveyed these sentiments during a stop at the Arizona Biltmore hotel, emphasizing that the Republican Party under Trump’s leadership is inclusive and diverse, a “big tent party.” He took this opportunity to dismiss Cheney and McCain’s political shifts as not reflective of the Republican base or indicative of meaningful support for Harris.
Liz Cheney, former Wyoming Congresswoman and daughter of Dick Cheney, openly declared her support for Harris, citing concerns over Trump’s threat to democracy, particularly highlighted by his refusal to accept the 2020 election results and the subsequent Capitol riot on January 6. Meanwhile, Lt. Jimmy McCain, son of the late Senator John McCain, has switched his registration to Democrat, expressing disenchantment with Trump, particularly after a visit Trump made to Arlington Cemetery, which McCain viewed as politicized.

Vance also responded to questions about political legacies and their relevance today, suggesting that the senior McCain would not have supported the current administration. He further scoffed at Harris’s suggestion of including Republicans like Cheney in her cabinet, questioning Cheney’s alignment with traditional Republican values.
The senator also highlighted the broad spectrum of support for Trump, citing endorsements from figures across the political landscape, including former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and former Democratic figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard.
In addition, Vance is scheduled to meet with Tucker Carlson in Pennsylvania, following Carlson’s controversial comments on a podcast where historical figures and events were provocatively reinterpreted. Despite the backlash, Vance praised Carlson’s willingness to engage in open dialogue and emphasized his support for free speech, reflecting a stance against censorship.

Throughout his campaign, Vance has faced scrutiny and critiques, not measuring up in popularity to Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, according to polls. Nevertheless, Vance remains focused on the broader electoral challenge in November, dismissing polling data in favor of direct voter engagement.
