WNBA Panics as Biological Reality Crashes the Party: League Stuck Accepting Males Thanks to Its Own Trans Ideology
The WNBA is learning the hard way what happens when you let ideology rewrite biology. Former NBA players Royce White and Enes Kanter Freedom have declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft, identifying as women—“sometimes” in White’s case—and the league’s response has been pure panic. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert fired off a memo, a task force of team presidents and GMs is scrambling to meet, and the players’ association is clutching its DEI pearls. All because the league’s own collective bargaining agreement says only “women” can play… without ever defining what a woman is. Democrats always seem to have a problem defining what a woman is, as their Leftist masters that set the agenda have their heads up their rears.
Royce White, the 6’8” former first-round pick and Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Minnesota, has taken the trolling to elite levels. He’s in his “feminine era,” wig in the mail and already testing it on the court. “I’m transgender. I’m a woman. I identify as sometimes identifying as a woman for purpose of basketball,” White told OutKick/Fox News. He plans to use the women’s locker room and has vowed a “huge legal battle” over discrimination if the league tries to stop him. “I think the WNBA could come out and make a definitive statement about guys with a pair of balls playing in the Women’s Association,” he said. “I’d like to know the specifics… Is it just a wig?”
Enes Kanter Freedom made a similar move, arguing that if self-declaration is enough, he qualifies. The pair’s stunts expose the exact hole progressive institutions carved for themselves. The WNBA CBA states “only players who are women are eligible,” but offers zero language on sex assigned at birth, chromosomes, or puberty. After years of celebrating inclusion and diversity rhetoric, the league cannot simply say “biological males stay out” without looking like the bigots they spent a decade calling everyone else.
This didn’t start with White’s wig. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham spoke basic truth: she wants to protect young girls who “shouldn’t have to go against biological men” in sports or locker rooms. She called it common sense. The backlash was immediate—rallies, boos, coaches and teammates waving “trans rights” flags, and the WNBPA issuing a statement embracing “justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion” while warning against “hate” toward transgender people. The union claimed it protects women’s sports while creating “transformational change.” Translation: biology is optional if the politics demand it.
Engelbert’s memo is classic corporate woke-speak: the topic is “complex and nuanced,” the league will approach it “thoughtfully, respectfully,” and eligibility rules are “collectively bargained.” In other words, they hope the Players Association will help them square the circle of “women only” while still signaling virtue. Changes would require redefining “woman” in a way that still lets males in—or admitting the ideology was always a fraud.
Americans are not confused. A New York Times/Ipsos poll found 79% of Americans—including 67% of Democrats—oppose biological males competing in women’s sports. Republicans clock in at 94%. Twenty-nine states have bans protecting girls’ and women’s sports; the Supreme Court upheld key ones in 2026. The IOC moved toward biological reality for the Olympics. Yet the WNBA, flush with progressive branding, still can’t utter the obvious.
White’s point is lethal: the league’s positions on trans players created this trap. They cannot close the door without repudiating years of activist signaling. NYC and New York progressive gender-identity rules only sharpen the legal pressure in discrimination claims, even if the league is national. The result is a women’s professional league that may soon have to pretend a 6’8” man in a wig is just another “queen.”
Common sense is not hate. Fairness is not bigotry. Biological males do not belong in women’s basketball. The WNBA’s refusal to say so out loud is why it’s stuck. Royce White didn’t create the problem—he simply put on the wig and forced them to look in the mirror. The Democrats are the enemy of the people of the United States. Their infestation of even sports is a joke to most Americans, but as they are in control, they set the agenda pisses off the rest of us with their insanity. Now, it is all fair game.
