Amazon and Walmart Chatbots say that the companies are intentionally allowing fraudulent ’Made in USA’ products and having them show up on their search results because the companies make more money They admit the fine from the FTC is significantly lower than the money they make allowing sellers to advertise their products as “Made in the USA” even through the majority of them are actually from China “Amazon’s own chatbot knows which products are actually made in the USA, but they’re promoting fraudulent made in the USA products, which is illegal.” “I found that the chatbots started telling me they absolutely could detect made in the USA fraud, and know that firms would not remove it from the platform because of business reasons. It sort of took my breath away.” I verified it and the fines are so low Amazon wouldn’t even notice, but they are making billions on this scam
From the Folks
- Parasitic economy on display. The justification is that they make more money from foreign made goods, as you said. The interesting historical fact is that the same countries we rely on today for mass production of cheaply made goods were almost all made that way by the Anglo American Empire. The British and later the United States (think the World Bank and the IMF) used economic hit men, like John Perkins to manufacture the conditions for economic exploitation at an industrial scale. But modern people don’t think of it as slavery because the “slaves” in this case have relative freedom and get paid a wage. – Justin
- There’s very few things I order from Amazon that I trust. Never items I’ll put in or on my body. Never foods or seasonings. I will buy small fans, or mop heads and that sort of thing. My sister ordered Paul Mitchell shampoo before I convinced her that most things are fake. It was 100% fake! I don’t care if it’s sold via the company “store” don’t trust anything. – Me
- There are millions of Chinese sellers on Amazon right now who break patent laws and commit IP infringement and Amazon does nothing. Been this way for ten plus years. You learn to get used to it. FTC is a useless agency by the way. They rarely enforce laws. – Jon Elder
- I noticed this when I was searching for American made products on Amazon. I was looking at the product description and it would say it was made in another country. It was pissing me off so I stopped searching for products made in America. I have much less respect for Amazon now. – MK
