A video circulating from Wall Street Apes (above) lays out an uncomfortable truth that American classrooms treat like radioactive waste: the Arab Muslim slave trade in Africans was the longest-running, one of the largest, and in key ways the most systematically brutal of them all. It lasted over 1,300 years. It did not end with a moral crusade from within. And schools that spend years on the Trans-Atlantic trade somehow never find the time for it.
This is not “whataboutism.” It is history. The selective amnesia is the scandal.
The Numbers That Do Not Fit the Curriculum
The Trans-Atlantic slave trade is the one everyone knows. From the 16th to the 19th centuries, roughly 12.5 million Africans were embarked on ships bound for the Americas; about 10.7 million survived the Middle Passage. Portugal/Brazil carried the largest share (around 5.8 million), followed by Britain (about 3.3 million). The United States received a relatively small slice—roughly 388,000 to 450,000 direct arrivals.
Now the Eastern trades—Trans-Saharan, Red Sea, and Indian Ocean routes dominated by Arab and Muslim merchants for centuries before Europeans ever reached West Africa in force:

- Scholarly estimates for Africans taken into the Islamic world between roughly 650/800 and 1900 commonly fall in the 10–18 million range. Ralph Austen’s careful work and syntheses drawing on it put the combined total around 11–12.5 million. Paul Lovejoy’s figures and Ronald Segal’s synthesis land in a similar ballpark (Segal: 11.5–14 million). Some higher estimates reach 17 million.
- The trade was not a short, intense burst. It ran for more than a millennium. Annual volumes were often lower than the Atlantic peak, but the cumulative drain over 13 centuries was enormous.

Add the Barbary corsair trade: North African Muslim states enslaved an estimated 1–1.25 million Europeans between the 16th and 18th centuries through coastal raids and ship captures stretching from Italy and Spain to Ireland and even Iceland.
Africans also enslaved other Africans on a large scale long before and during both external trades. The idea of pure European invention is pure propaganda.
Different Demands, Different Horrors
European buyers wanted labor for plantations—strong young men and some women. The Islamic trade had a different profile. Demand ran heavily toward women and girls for domestic service and concubinage. Female slaves routinely commanded higher prices. Male slaves, especially those destined for elite households or harems, were frequently castrated to create eunuchs. Survival rates from the procedure were grim—often cited in the 10–30% range in some accounts, with higher mortality reported in others. The demographic footprint of Black populations in the Middle East and North Africa is correspondingly smaller than the African-American population precisely because so many males could not reproduce.
This is not ancient folklore. The trade continued in measurable form into the 19th and even early 20th centuries. Legal abolition came late in key places: Saudi Arabia and Yemen in 1962, Oman in 1970, Mauritania (the last country to abolish it formally) in 1981—more than a century after the United States and Britain had ended the Atlantic trade and suppressed it by naval force.

The Selective Outrage Industry
Western schools and media treat the Atlantic trade as the original sin of modernity while treating the longer Arab trade as an awkward footnote, if they mention it at all. Why? Because one fits the preferred narrative of unique Western (especially American and British) guilt, and the other complicates it. The same institutions that demand endless ritual self-flagellation over 1619 show remarkable incuriosity about 652 onward.
Britain’s Royal Navy spent decades and significant blood and treasure suppressing the slave trade after 1807. That moral and practical leadership gets memory-holed. African rulers and merchants who sold captives into both systems rarely feature in the morality plays. And the fact that chattel slavery persisted legally in parts of the Islamic world into the living memory of people still alive today is treated as impolite to notice.

None of this erases the evil of the Trans-Atlantic trade or the suffering it caused. It simply refuses the lie that this was history’s only, or even primary, slave trade involving Africans. The longest continuous large-scale traffic in African slaves was the Eastern one. The highest death rates from deliberate mutilation belonged to that system. The latest formal abolitions were not in the West.
If the goal is truth rather than political weaponry, teach the whole story. The video that started this conversation is right about one central point: American students are not taught this. That omission is not accidental. It is ideological.

From Wall Street Apes’ Post: The truth about the black slave trade your were never taught in American schools Listen to every word “Not only did Arabs enslave Africans, it’s actually the longest-standing slave trade. In fact, it was never abolished. The Arab Muslim slave trade, also known as the Trans-Saharan slave trade, is recognized as the longest in history, spanning over 1,300 years. It forcibly removed millions of Africans from their homeland. Oh, and it gets way worse. You see, while European merchants primarily sought, you know, strong young men to work their fields, the Arabs had a different idea in mind. For the Muslim merchants, there was a heavy focus on concubinage and sex slaves.
🚨 Who claims they “ended” the slave trade?
In 2026, Muslim slave traders in Africa are still selling Black Christian kids as young as 4 — stuffed in bags like animals.
The media, progressives, pro-Palestine protesters, the UN, and even the Pope? Crickets.

The demand for females was so high that merchants would double their price, and the Muslims would impregnate their female slaves to try and stop reproduction between the Africans. You may be wondering what they did with the men in all this time. They castrated them, a procedure that resulted in the death of many during the process. Can you imagine being a man, having to watch your women be ripped out of your homes, and then having to watch them be sex slaves, and then you’re castrated on top of that? It’s no wonder that a lot of the slaves, the male slaves, committed suicide.
It is beyond emasculating. It is beyond humiliating. But when we go to the Quran, we see that Muhammad was not only a slave owner and slave trader, but that he would buy other slaves for two Black slaves. So Black slaves were worth half as much. And the Quran teaches that those who go to heaven have bright white faces, while those who go to hell have black faces. You have to understand, a lot of the English translations are watered down. The original Arabic is brutal. Slavery still exists today in many Arab nations.
I dare you to go to Libya as a Black man and see what they’ll do with you. In Palestine, Black people are called Al-Abid, which means slave. They’re literally in a neighborhood called Al-Abid, the slave. The Hadiths even praise Muhammad for his whiteness” At the end of this video I provide a full fact check of every single claim made in this video Every single claim is true This is what should be taught in all Western schools
