Met Gala 2027’s theme will revolve around a "John Galliano: Horizons" exhibit honoring the 65-year-old designer, Vogue’s Anna Wintour announced with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The spring exhibition will examine Galliano’s four-decade career, including his work at Dior, Givenchy, Maison Margiela and his namesake label. The event will mark only the third time a living designer has been honored with a Costume Institute exhibition, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 and Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo in 2017. Wintour praised Galliano’s creativity while acknowledging that the showcase would not shy away from the controversial moments in his past. Curator Andrew Bolton said “Horizons” will explore how Galliano reshaped fashion—as well as how his conduct, its consequences and changing cultural values have influenced the way his work is viewed. While the Met Gala’s celebrity cochairs and official dress code have not yet been announced, Galliano’s designs have appeared on the famous steps before, including Kim Kardashian’s custom silver Maison Margiela look at the 2024 event.
